OK. Weāre back for the vet. All good, teeth checked, vaccine given and worm tablet slipped down her throat. Weight, as expected too high, but instructions on how to reduce her food intake. Ā šš. Sheās so good. No problem getting her seen to. š. Love having her here.Ā
Hope all well with you over there. Feel so sorry for the Ukrainians. Obelixx, Iām impressed with your offer of taking in a Ā couple of refugees. Ā So lovely. I wish I could help like that. Ā
Good morning all š āļøĀ Drizzle has just stopped and the sunās coming out ⦠between us we got a fair bit done in the garden yesterday ⦠plenty more to do but itās already looking better. I also made a big batch of minestrone in the slow cooker for OHās lunches, and a rhubarb crumble for our visitorsā supper this evening. This morning Iāll start with making some bread as we only have a crust left, and then Iāll be peeling potatoes and parsnips for the vegetable bake ā¦.Ā
Weāve been talking about offering a home for refugees ⦠the hearts are willing but we really donāt have the space ⦠OH is a very light sleeper and frequently abandons ship and sleeps in the spare room if heās working the next day, so itās not really āspareā. Ā
Of course, if there were more refugees than homes offered Iām sure weād willingly open our doors, but neither they nor we would have much privacy. It would however be better than what Putin is offering them ā¦

The two older grandchildren have gone to school, so has teacher daughter.
The sky is grey but sun is forecast to shine.
Things are too complicated at the moment to invite refugees, family commitments and OH living in England awaiting his op. I fear the pending divorce is affecting the two older children quite badly. We have sent financial help to Ukraine instead. If only Putin could change his mind or have a heart attack. I shouldn't wish that on someone but he has caused the deaths of so many.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Strange sky this morning.Ā Full cloud cover but with a sickly, yellow cast.Ā There is a small pale disc of sun just visible thru it and looking more like the moon with no face.Ā Supposed to be sunny now but it's not and the air feels funny outside so I'll get on with more sanding and painting of chair back struts.
At this point @Busy-Lizzie I would be pleased to see Putin get a dose of his own Novichok.Ā Ā Where is the next Gorbachev?Ā Ā
Well done with Pixel @Pat E.Ā If she's housebound at home she'll not be getting much exercise.Ā Ā Ours have free rein but both get plumper in winter when it's cold and wet outside so they sleep more and Cosmos gets positively fat.Ā
@Dovefromabove you may not have space to home them but you can offer food and maybe some art therapy if you hear of refugees in your area.
Morning everyone,Ā bright start so fingers crossed.Ā We have been woken early by a helicopter flying low and loud, the past 2 days, not sure what it's all about.Ā We have talked about taking in a family too. The GC don't come to stay anymore so in theory we have 2 spare bedrooms, but we don't have a separate reception room so we would be all together for most of the time.Ā We would need to do a fair bit of sorting out, it's not something we could do within a couple of weeks. Still mulling it over.
@Obelixx ... already signed up for that sort of thing š as an ex Children's Social Services worker they already have my details etc .... and of course, we've made financial contributions.Ā Ā

@Obelixx I saw your Saharan sandy sky mentioned in our weather forecast yesterday, we are due to get the same in the next couple of days. Here's what our last big one in 2017 looked like, this was mid-afternoon:-
Bread made and out of the oven ... veg 'dauphinoise' made and in the oven under foil to cook through.... I'll pop it back in the oven without the foil to heat through and brown while the chicken is resting .. I seem to have 'over catered' a bit with the bake ... but it freezes well ... (it also turns into a very good soup with the aid of a potato masher and some veg stock).
Order has been re-established in the kitchen, the chicken is sitting in it's roaster , slathered with butter and with onion wedges and sprigs of rosemary up its nether regions. Veg and nut stuffing balls (with a bit of lemon zest) are ready to reheat later.
I've done a negative Lateral flow test, so now I can put my feet up for a couple of hours and see what's been going on here ...
I've been hobbling all morning as a tendon in my gammiest knee has felt as if it's twisted or caught on something and my knee feels 'precarious' ... it does that from time to time ... it's usually fine when I go to bed and painful when I get up in the morning ... (no one seems to have any idea why other than it's possibly/probably something to do with my snapped ACL). Then it suddenly is perfectly ok again. I just put the brush and dustpan away and something 'clicked' and I'm painfree again.

The Vendée group I contacted have allocated all "their" refugees but there is now a govt website for signing up to offer help, either homing or financing refugees so I've done that.  The longer this goes on the more likely it there will be older ladies or even older couples needing shelter and happy to be out in the sticks. We'll see, and we're still on the original list in case they get more.
