Ouch @Hostafan1, that's an enormous increase - you'll have to put another jumper on! The only consolation will be that hopefully it will get warmer soon.
Unlike gas and electricity, it has to be paid before you use it, not after. I'm now wondering if it'd be cheaper to heat the house with electric heaters until, / IF prices come down again.
Morning folks, did not want to get up after such a rubbish night. Bladder thought differently! Hosta,we have to pay for our fuel before we use it.Direct Debit. Electricity is apparently going up £600 April another rise in September, same amount. How long does that oil last you? I don't know anyone who has oil. I did look at property around Edenbridge in Kent, rural, lovely cottages, but a lot for sale near one another. They had oil, but the estate agent told me they were all in a dispute with the nearby farmer regarding a leaking cesspit,so that was a red flag. Mind you solar panels went "live" yesterday, after having economy 7 for over 40 years,it's going to take some getting used to now waiting till we have our "own" electricity before using the appliances. There is a fancy "app" on my phone telling us what we are producing and using, but it's not as simple as that. It's all written in techno speak, I liked my old meter, you watched it whizz round, and it was easy to see how many kw you used. You all know I don't "do" technology!! Haha, Obelixx, I've had a couple of Dyson, but they are ridiculously expensive. I don't know why folk have got in the habit of talking about Hoovering their floors, when it's a manufacturer, not a verb. The first one I had in the 70s was indeed,a Smelly noisy, dusty Hoover, but I still vacuumed with it
Have yet to hear anyone dysoning, the floor! It's very cold outside,2c no frost, sun already on the roof. Have a good day folks.
Had an email from SSE yesterday. I'm all electric, and SSE have gifted me a forecasted increase of just under 29% for the coming year. I fear that is just the start of the increases.
@Nanny Beach I didn’t have you down as a pedant 😂 … hoover (without the capitalisation) has been accepted across the English speaking world for at least a couple of generations as a generic term for a vacuum cleaner … you just try putting it into a search on Argos or Curry’s websites … you’ll get all sorts of brands … and what is more, ‘to hoover up’ is now an accepted verb which, as well as meaning to ‘vacuum’ (which of course was also originally a noun) is also used to mean ‘to suck up or consume quickly’ … as in ‘the children left the bread and butter but hoovered up the cakes’…
One of the wonderful things about the English language is how it changes and adapts to keep pace with our lives, thou knowest 😉

Morning Dove, pedantic and proud of it,that's me. I expect you grew up in the 50s folk didn't have vacuum cleaners, broom, brush and dust pan. When my late Mother got yes a Hoover, she always spoke of vacuuming. Change the language,no!!! Keep pace with our lives, I don't actually know anyone who has a Hoover anymore. I can't stand people saying things are "pants". You want "cookies" on my phone,no thanks, that'll make a mess! My flaming oldest daughter says,"nothink and "somethink, ooh, even the phone didn't like them and auto corrected. No way would I look on those 2 websites, had the misfortune to purchase from both in the past, nothing but problems.Over the years people have said to me at work, I talk posh,no just properly, with TS and GS,and have been called a walking dictionary!!
@Nanny Beach ... I was born in '52 ... my mother always had a Hoover as far back as I can remember (and my first memories are from before I was 2 years old) ... ... and her mother my granny always had a vacuum cleaner too but I can't remember the brand ... and it was old when I was a child, and they both had the smaller handheld ones as well for the stairs and the sofa etc. and of course, everyone had Ewbank or Bex Bissell 'carpet sweepers' for the days when the 'daily help' didn't come. The broom, brush and dustpan was for the wooden floor around the sides of the carpet (no one had 'fitted carpets' in those days) ... polished wooden floors that were waxed monthly or mopped with a mop sprinkled with O'Cedar.
And for heaven's sake ... I wasn't suggesting that you would buy from Argos or Currys ... I'm sure that, like everyone on here, you only buy from John Lewis or Fortum & Mason ... I was using them as examples of purveyors of multiple brands of vacuum cleaner ........ 😂

OH's appointment with the lung consultant has been cancelled. The hospital has just rung, half an hour before we were due to leave, to say there is an outbreak of Covid in the department. Means hip op will be pushed away yet again. Fed up, so sorry for him.
I have 2 Hoovers, one in England and one in France.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hello Dove. I never realised how posh you were!😁. I like your style .. purveyor, yes, nice old fashioned word!! Not sure how old I was when my late mum got the Hoover. Lino on all the floors, apart from the kitchen, a rug in the sitting room. We lived with her parents till I was 2, normal in those days. I can remember being in a pram in their garden. Aunt lived a few doors down. I didn't have a vacuum cleaner (or fridge) when I got married in 1970. When we moved into our first house in Redhill in 1975(after 5 years in a caravan) there was a shop at the end of the road, and I had my very first second hand Hoover, vacuum cleaner. I had a fridge then, but not a washing machine. I did have a Burco Boiler. We do buy washing machines and the like from John Lewis, same price but 5 years warranty. Previously,TV and microwave purchased from Curry's developed fault after a few months, found store not helpful,(that's me being polite)

Bad news @Busy-Lizzie, so awfully frustrating for you both.
Just back from physio, need a lie down now, thankfully it all feels better later.
Hoping to get into the garden today, sun is out.
Good day to all. I'm not mentioning things that suck up dust. 😅🙄😱🫣
