At town council level, it generally isn't party political, or it isn't here, anyway, although you do find people with higher political ambition using it as a springboard. But on the whole, the problems come from people who are just petty minded individuals who think being a town councillor makes them important, and like to throw their 'weight' around to no actual purpose, or to serve some notional agenda that makes very little sense

I once worked as a senior manager for a local council for a few years. The job involved attending council meetings. My experience was that the only thing that councillors were interested in was ... lunch. Most didn't stay at the meeting once they were fed. Money for old rope.
I still have memories of an agenda that included the decision about which local town would trial the machine that took bubblegum off pavement. That item took one hour. An hour of my life I will never get back.
Local democracy has a lot to answer for.

Feeling better now having been with some fellow In Bloomers clearing out all the old compost from a v.large planter in the middle of town which is going to be replaced with a smarter one. Just spent a happy hour or so researching which plants can be put in the new planter so even just looking at plants online (with purpose!) is great therapy! Thanks for support and sympathy. I can well believe it would take an hour to decide on the gum-removing machine @Bee witched. In fact I'm surprised it got decided in an hour!
Hello all … lovely afternoon with son. At Christmas he got me an IPad mini but it hadn’t arrived when he came to us, so today was his first chance to give it to me. 😎 we’ve set it up between us and I’ll get to grips with it properly tomorrow. In the meantime I’m nearly ready to doze on the sofa 🥱
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
My last day off for a while so as the weather was uninspiring and cold, I cleaned the bedroom and bathroom. Boring but overdue. Bedding hadn’t quite dried on line but it’s had a blow.
Had an early-ish dinner (chicken, stuffing and roasted root veg) so settling down to catch up on some TV recordings - the Marcus Wareing smallholding prog, maybe some Escape to the country, that sort of thing.
Edit: umm… snooker recorded in place of Marcus Wareing - rude!
I was able to get out into the garden this afternoon and do some planting, tidying and feeding of roses and clems. It was good to be out in the sunshine, despite not being very warm.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I have an iPad mini and LOVE it. Easier to see than a phone, but small enough to hold like a book for ages. Only get my laptop out these days if there is some serious typing to do (which, for me, still requires a keyboard). Hope you get on well with yours Dove - it’s a game changer 😀😀😀

After a quick visit my son's now gone home, it was lovely to see him.
