People believed in Brexit. People still believe Trump. People believe the Covid vaccine contains microchips. G5 will fry your brain. Slugs aren't pests.
I can't believe that the people of Russia don't know what is going on in Ukraine, why do they think that the currency has collapsed, shops are running out of western goods and factories are laying off staff, the people of Russia can't be as deluded as their murderous leaders can they?
75 million people voted for Donald Trump in the last election with full access to the free press to see what a terrible leader he was. People voted for Brexit despite all the fact check information showing they were being lied to. Huge numbers of adults in this country have the reading comprehension of a pre-teen so I can only imagine the situation is worse in Russia.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Because we are attacking them for trying to defend the Russians who live in Ukraine and are being ruled by Western sponsored Nazis - people so despicable they are attacking their own cities in order to discredit the Russian peace keepers who are being careful to only attack military installations. This is what we're told they've been told.

People used to joke about PRAVDA, the old USSR news agency. Why is millions of pounds of the BBC TV tax spent on the BBC World Service? The BBC is the biggest propaganda outlet in the world, pumping Western 'news' into every country in the world in their own language.

Unfortunately, ignorance is impossible to beat…but incredibly easy to leverage.
But how do you police that (and who polices it)? What are the rules that say that what you're doing is 'right' and not just the the imposition of another's will over a sovereign country - the same as Russia is now doing in Ukraine? Who defines the action as legitimate - the West, NATO, UN, Russia, China, me, you?
And you can't then ignore consequences of actions can you? How many people died in the remedial action and subsequently because of what the action caused?
What are the rules that say that what you're doing is 'right' and not just the the imposition of another's will over a sovereign country -
There are norms and agreements between countries that determine this. It is not as simple as national law. If you look at the behaviours of nations over history you can see that far from what is bandied about in ignorance, the vast majority of countries abide by these…it is the pariah states that do not.
People in the USA didn't vote for Trump after he ordered his troops to attack a peaceful nation though did they, in fact some of them may have voted for him because he said that he wouldn't get America involved in other peoples wars, although I suspect that they may have voted for him because his opposition was so bad which may be why Boris got elected in this country.

This might be a reason too.

I am hoping you are explaining why the Russian public is ignorant.
Hoping.
