Are we fiddling while Rome burns?
I feel a bit ashamed of being concerned ( I don't obsess) about my garden when I see the atrocities that are happening in the world. I understand the idea that you can only control your little patch of the world but it still seems wrong.

If we can feed ourselves, even a bit, we are leaving food for those who can't, for whatever reason.
And it's good for my mental health, leaving resources for those who need them

But these things still need taking care of, if more pressing things come into our lives we may prioritise differently. And while caring matters it likely doesn't help to become too down about things we have little influence upon.

I rather suspect Putin and co have been surprised by the united stand of the EU and western world, committing to sanctions and beefing up NATO in member states. I don't think they expected that or the determination if Ukrainians not to be "re-absorbed" into Soviet states. It's going to be a long stalemate but, in the end, it has served to galvanise the EU into unity in the face of aggression. Oops, Putin.
I just hope everyone holds steady and stands up to the bully. We've been her before with pre and post communist Russia seeking access to a southern port that is ice free in winter................
