Are we fiddling while Rome burns?

I feel a bit ashamed of being concerned ( I don't obsess) about my garden when I  see the atrocities that are happening in the world. I understand the idea that you can only control your little patch of the world but it still seems wrong.

    We are but small potatoes, and it's basically all we can control.
    If we can feed ourselves, even a bit, we are leaving food for those who can't, for whatever reason.
    And it's good for my mental health, leaving resources for those who need them

    Life has to go on. But I know how you feel, I felt stupid being livid with Tesco when they let me down with online shopping last Friday. For days the people of Ukraine has been mulling around in my head as I potter about. I'm so angry....

    Yes I know what you mean. I think we are all inclined to concern ourselves with things that could seem trivial and cause feelings of guilt.

    But these things still need taking care of, if more pressing things come into our lives we may prioritise differently. And while caring matters  it likely doesn't help to become too down about things we have little influence upon.

    I know what you mean, this morning after I'd typed that all was well with my world in the RTBC thread I immediately thought of the people across in Ukraine and told myself not to be so ruddy smug.

    there's always war, famine, poverty, death etc. We just have to get on as best we can.

    And help where we can... there are lots of appeals from reputable bodies such as UNICEF, for funds to support people in Ukraine and elsewhere.  Salves the conscience a little.

    OH and I are pensioners, well beyond fighting age.   All we can do is refuse to buy anything Russia, offer help to charities etc collecting to provide food, shelter and succour to refugees and wounded.  

    I rather suspect Putin and co have been surprised by the united stand of the EU and western world, committing to sanctions and beefing up NATO in member states.   I don't think they expected that or the determination if Ukrainians not to be "re-absorbed" into Soviet states.   It's going to be a long stalemate but, in the end, it has served to galvanise the EU into unity in the face of aggression.   Oops, Putin.   

    I just hope everyone holds steady and stands up to  the bully.   We've been her before with pre and post communist Russia seeking access to a southern port that is ice free in winter................
