If source X says there is no shelling happening, and source Y shows footage of shells landing in real time, then it is easy to see who is telling the truth. Other times i just accept that i don't know who is telling the truth. If source X says you have WMD's, and source Y says we don't have any, i can't know who is telling the truth until much later when proof or not is established.
Basically, i'm just an old cynic and trust no media outlet. :)

I think you need to then determine what the 'live' shelling is showing? How do you know it is live? I think you would be amazed at what technology and media can achieve today.
It comes down to agenda doesn't it? Who has most to gain by promoting a variant of the truth? It seems to all come down to trust. I don't doubt that some Russians trust their leadership and think what they're being told is true. But as has been said on this thread multiple times, some Americans believe(d) Trump - and some people in the UK think Boris has integrity. We all then end up with our own belief systems and have to guess at what the 'truth' really is.

I am no stranger to manipulation of 'the truth' by media organisations, and wouldn't be amazed at what technology does. :D If a blogger i have followed for years has always proved to be telling the truth, then i would tend to trust their word if they have witnessed something though.

Then why not trust the BBC? What lies have they purposely peddled?

Edited to add: Conversely, for a Russian that believes their leadership, why would they not believe the footage they're shown and the reports they get from their media? So, for balance, why not also trust RT?

If you need to ask that, then goodbye from me. :)

Or Channel 4 - Matt Frei almost in tears after witnessing the death of a child, his anger barely suppressed in the interview that followed, Lyndsey Hilsum calmly reporting 'nothing to report - yet' from the targeted city of Odesa.
I have watched them for years and know them better than I know my neighbours!

Which bit - the 'what has the BBC lied over' or the 'why not trust RT'?

Surely @Buttercupdays, we have all said that about people in the past, and been proven wrong.
We are incredibly lucky in this country, our Media may not always be to our liking, but at least they are free.
How can you lie there and think of England

I think Naom Chomsky's many videos on media bias are well worth watching.
His famous put down to Andrew Marr is a classic.

People used to joke about PRAVDA, the old USSR news agency.
Why is millions of pounds of the BBC TV tax spent on the BBC World Service?
The BBC is the biggest propaganda outlet in the world, pumping Western 'news' into every country in the world in their own language.
    "propaganda" implies lies.
Can you give a few examples of the lies told by the BBC on the World Service?
Who do YOU trust to give honest , impartial news?
I don't trust any news outlet. They all have their own agenda. If i want to know what the truth is, i'll watch how it is reported on many different sources. BBC, Aljazeera, RT, and various bloggers. The 'truth' is usually in there somewhere.
and what LIES and propaganda has BBC World Service broadcast?
    Devon.
