Russians on social media are saying that all Russian media has to follow the state rhetoric that Putin is saving Ukraine and that Ukrainians are killing their own people and bombing their own cities. The savvy ones know to check sources like the BBC but there's millions who just get information from approved channels.
I love the idea that the Ukrainians came up with to bribe Russian soldiers into surrendering. Take £40k and start a new life in Ukraine. It must be very tempting to young conscripts who don't want to be there and want to escape Putin's rule.
I also like the idea that you don't have to declare captured Russian tanks on your tax returns. It never occured to me that you'd have to be taxed on that or even that you'd be allowed to keep them in the first place. Imagine the tax man knocking on your door, "Is this your fully armed Russian tank, sir?".
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I think the tax thing is really just evidence that the Ukrainians haven't lost their sense of humour.

Paypal charges significant fees including to charities. It seems to work very hard to make it extremely difficult to use their platforms for fundraising. They threaten to freeze accounts of anyone they think they might be trying to raise money, claiming it as anti-fraud measures, but then take months and months to 'investigate' what is really quite an easy thing to verify. I really dislike their way of going about things.

I've been wondering what they'll do with those seized yachts.. Who can afford them?
Why not blow them to smithereens?  It might concentrate the minds of  the oligarchs.

Talking of Ukranian humour,  apparently, it's already been suggested the super yachts could be refitted with missiles for them to use against the Russian navy.
When I donated I just used my normal bank card it went through immediately, I just had to put in an authorisation code to confirm it was me.

Is anyone worrying about this situation, it appears that a megalomaniac is in charge of Russia doing what he wants to a peaceful nation and the west (NATO) with all of its tons of weapons is impotent for fear of making the situation much worse for everyone. Big Lizzy-nuclear submarines-cruise missiles-satellite technology means nothing when dealing with a mad man. Of course there are always sanctions cut off the supply of credit he cuts off the supply of gas, a war of attrition where Russia and the west see who can starve out the other remembering that the Russian people are well acquainted to hardship. The other nations that Putin is said to be eyeing up are scrambling to join the EU and NATO but what can the EU or NATO do about a mad man. Sorry just a few thoughts on world affairs maybe it will all be over before Christmas.
