But you then have to have belief in your own people eh? I trust what I see and read to a degree - because I think I'm free and have access to different views. But you have heard the official Russian line here. If you were in Russia what would you believe now? Who is the bad guy - so in the minds of the Russians who believe that their leaders are are right, don't you think they feel justified in their country's actions? They are doing as you suggest and ridding Ukraine of an oppressive regime. Scary eh? The mirror image of what is occurring.
We see this and ignore it at our peril. Trump nearly stole an election by claiming an election was stolen from him. People still believe he was/is right. That man should be banned from US politics. Putin lies - where's the difference between Putin and Trump?
You've missed my point Steve, but it does demonstrate how it's easy to venture down the wrong route, or is it me who's missed your point? I do believe innocent Syrian people were gassed/poisoned by their leaders, the reason being is because the UN has evidence. It maybe the UN are wrong, but what if they are right? It's so complicated. Did Russia poison people in Salisbury? Our Gov says so, Putin says not. Putin lies so does our Gov. Trump is convinced his election was stolen and so does millions of his supporters, we could go on all day. Meanwhile while we procrastinate more people are being killed.
Indecision by generals has led many a foot soldier to his death.
Assassination won't help. The world and Russia needs a trial where everything comes out. If he is bumped off, even by his own, he will become a martyr and the brainwashed populous will remain that way. Holding people to account for their actions is the only way we might get long term peace.
The US and nato have both said a nfz will actually probably help Russia a lot more than the Ukraine. A extremely brave president is trying to defend his country by using impassioned pleas but his military forces apparently haven't asked for a nfz.
China should be the world's new target. If it's true they agreed that nothing would be done during the Olympics, which seems likely at the moment, and their reluctance to condemn the actions, as shown yesterday by censoring the Olympics opening ceremony yesterday, shows who's side they are on. They are currently backing up the Russian economy and they have a special relationship, so I don't get why the west hasn't threatened sanctions. Xi is like his Russian counterpart, someone who has grandiose plans for his country and doesn't mind who he jumps into bed with to achieve that but is equally someone that won't risk their position at the top.
So many people were so critical of the invasion of Iraq and the killing of Saddam, very few mention that he killed between 250000 and 500000 of his own people. I witnessed the after effects of his use of chemical weapons and it was probably the most traumatic experience I have had.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Saddam's sons were reputedly psychopathic too. God knows what would have happened if one of them bumped his father off and took power.
If anyone is looking for level-headed and informed opinions on current situations (albeit with an American focus) then I can recommend this Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/BeauoftheFifthColumn Beau can be very reassuring when the world is losing its head.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
@wild edges I have a friend who works for the MoD and back when Saddam was still in power, I asked him why they hadn't just taken the AH out. He said it was because his sons were far worse. I'm guessing that's why they got rid of them first.
But how do you police that (and who polices it)? What are the rules that say that what you're doing is 'right' and not just the the imposition of another's will over a sovereign country - the same as Russia is now doing in Ukraine? Who defines the action as legitimate - the West, NATO, UN, Russia, China, me, you?
And you can't then ignore consequences of actions can you? How many people died in the remedial action and subsequently because of what the action caused?
I can't believe that the people of Russia don't know what is going on in Ukraine, why do they think that the currency has collapsed, shops are running out of western goods and factories are laying off staff, the people of Russia can't be as deluded as their murderous leaders can they?

What makes you think all these things are happening? Is it because our TV channels say so?
