My Braun stick blender died on Tuesday.  Only 30 years old.   Bought a new one today as I use it a lot.  Our 15 year old washing machine started leaving oily streaks on the sheets and that means it needs a new drum.  Labour, parts and call out fee more expensive than a new machine so I have a new washing machine now.

We've also taken out a policy for 9€ a month where the supplier will repair any electrical machine we have - fridges, freezers, dishwashers, ovens, robot floor cleaner, microwaves..........   Bargain!

@Obelixx have you checked that there isn't an age limit on appliances they will cover?

  • Drat.  OH and I have just tested positive for Covid.  Not so bad for me because I can hibernate - but OH is supposed to be taking rehearsals on Sunday, Tuesday & Wednesday, with a concert on Friday...

  • Thank you very much, @Dovefromabove.  I'm supposed to be singing in Sunday's rehearsal and Friday's concert, but it's looking a bit unlikely at the mo...

I'm sure people have their reasons, but why are people still testing for Covid when it is no longer required and neither is isolation if testing positive?
  • My sister came to stay for a few days, and she tested in case she had Covid and could pass it to us. Her job involves dealing with the public, and the number of cases in Edinburgh are rising.

We didn't test, but we hadn't been anywhere for the last week or so.

Nobody wants to pass it on to friends or family.

@KT53, I think testing is still important. My 102 old mother has lived through covid without catching a thing. She has now gone into a Home and not two months in, she has tested positive for covid( so have three Carers and other residents). She was isolated for five days. Let out of her room on day six. When asked if she has now tested negative, I was informed that procedures in place ( legislation) does not demand further testing until 90 days later. What good is that? If caught and reactions/symptoms are severe, it could end up killing her. No results recorded, no statistics to collect, therefore nothing to worry about.?? All is well? Bah.
Older people are perhaps more vulnerable to picking up things so yes, I do think it's vitally important that testing should be done. It may not just be a case of a mere cold when you're talking about a 102 year old.

We had our Covid boosters in June - I insisted before going into hospital for my new knee - and Possum got hers last month before starting her new job.   We're due again in December and yes, Covid cases are rising here too.

One lady at patchwork had Covid over the summer.  That's 3 times now and says it's cos of her blood group but OH is also A+ and has never had it so I think she's maybe just not as careful as we are.

Our supermarket is the only one still to have a push-through spray machine to disinfect trolleys and a separate hand spray.   Most big shops still have the hand spray but tucked away in a corner and practically invisible.
