    No need for warnings @punkdoc.

I dislike "jungle" gardens so the second I realise a new thread is about those I stop reading and move on.  Ditto a few other threads.

That same option is there for anyone reading the first post on any thread or later on in the chat threads which tend to wander.

Mind you, I do have to wonder how you've got to your age and are only now realising  life is not black and white.

I think, possibly, that the answer to that is Obelixx, is that we have different views as we get older. Things change and, I like to think that we see both sides more. It's not always the case I know that. My views on some things are wildly different from when I was in my teens and then twenties. Not always for the better, I might add.

I can't understand why some folk read pages and pages of comments on a subject only to be outraged  / offended / upset by it.
The subject matter was perfectly clear from the outset .
I avoid threads about " Strictly "  " snail lovers "  " wordle " and others because I have no interest in them, but I don't think anyone needs to warn folk .

I don't know really on the matter like its been mentioned its a grey area . A civil case isn't the same as a criminal case , for the allegations it should be a criminal case but its was thrown out so in theory he is innocent ? Personally I would of locked him up anyway for the previous convictions he is a thug .

Either way people who have been to prison still need and be allowed to work when they are released ,  of course they jobs where they shouldn't work. He is a footballer that's his job so I don't really see a problem . If the club / company were employing people on character they'll be a lot of incompetent people in the wrong working environment and the business isn't going to do right well .  I never like the witch hunt of people losing their job over a small mistake ( unless its serious / criminal ) or an allegation .

I did jury service a few years ago the defendant was up for GBH or something similar , the other chap got blinded in one eye after the incident. The defendants previous convictions of violence was shown to the jurors . The case got thrown out or went to a retrial because the jurors paper with convictions on had one more conviction on than the judges paper , I am puzzled how something like that can happen.. It didn't change my opinion of the defendant but it does show what a nasty piece of work the person was in the past or still is .

I'm still stumped by the idea that there are right and wrong places to discuss things. Obviously,  if you start a thread about pigeons eating your brassica, you wouldn't expect to see something about, say, Boris, but if you go to the potting shed, why not? What IS appropriate to a site that must include all sorts of people with all sorts of experience?

If you go to 'categories ' rather than 'discussions ' , you can avoid the potting shed entirely.  The kind of discussion that some might wish to be closed down can be avoided by those who are likely to be offended by non- gardening opinions and the rest can continue to debate.

@perki - He will not be spending his time there just out on the pitch.

He's been employed by a football club with a women's team, women employees in other posts off the pitch and also fans who are women and girls and all of them have the right to feel offended, shocked, worried or frightened by his presence in their club.

Personally I agree with you, but gardening is often a type of therapy for people and if a sexual abuse victim is using gardening as their therapy to help with suicidal thoughts or similar then they might want to avoid the association of the forum with threads on that topic. Or they might be pleased to see threads like this discussing the topic. My wife is a therapist and deals with a lot of people who suffer from mental health problems caused by sexual abuse so I'm probably more aware of the issue than a lot of people. Like you say it's easier to avoid a thread if the subject is in the title and that's the point being made I think.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I must be living in the past - after your post, I see they changed the rules back in 2004! Apologies for making that erroneous comment.

What would you rather he do though? go and work in a bank with female employees instead ? I understand your point but to say he can't work in a environment where the company employs female staff seems over the top .
