There is still a horrific mindset in some quarters that a person who is too incapacitated to give clear consent (through alcohol or anything else) is fair game, and worse, is partially to blame for whatever happens to them. That needs to change.
Going by the massive rise in "date rape" drugging incidents right now I would say that things are rapidly getting worse and offenders are getting bolder knowing that they are unlikely to be prosecuted.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Not maybe relevant here, but it really worries me that people are being fired for associations, rumours and accusations with no hard evidence of anything acutally happening. It's a very dangerous situation. Even if it later becomes clear that the accused is entirely innocent of any wrong doing, the mud has stuck media and social media has condemed someone so completely that they have to move and may never work again. [Goodwillie was convicted of the crime].

Academics and writers are being fired from their jobs for their associations and Twitter comments. People say "there's no smoke without fire", "he looks like such an unsavoury bloke", "err on the side of caution", "he's rich. I don't like him. He's probably guilty". The mob kicks in and grabs the pitch forks.

Dr Yvette Cloete had her home atttacked because locals got wind that she was a paedophile. She had to flee. In fact she was a hospital paediatrician. But what do a few a few syllables matter?

The fine details matter incredibly where people's futures are at stake. As RG says, the system of law doesn't work well, esp with rape charges. But we can't toss out the process of law.

This sort of thread really should have a warning.

You mean like, "Caution: thoughtful people discuss topical issue in civilised manner."? You are quite right.

@Fire, the transexual debate and how people like JK Rowling have been treated is another area that really troubles me, I really feel I don't understand it.
I keep coming back to thinking, if I decide that I am a woman, then am I really allowed to walk into a women's changing room. I know that is a gross over simplification of the issues, but I can't get past it.

How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

Err no…but I expect you know that. I’m not criticising discussing the issue, I’m saying have a care for those who are traumatised by sexual assault and would rather not be blind-sided on a gardening forum, albeit off topic…

@punkdoc the general movement towards mob justice deeply troubles me too.

Not everyone knows about 'trigger warnings' and things. They are fairly recent developments on the internet landscape.

I agree with that but his/her reply was rather snarky for some reason, not sure why my suggestion should warrant that sort of response but /shrug.

The suggestion of a thread warning is often used in an aggressive way and you didn't specify why you thought the warning was required. I'm sure you weren't deliberately trying to wind people up but it came across that way.
