There’s a saying ‘Where there is a laboratory there is an Italian’. Since reading this in my Italian class about three years ago I have paid attention to it and it is surprising how often Italian names crop up in reports of scientific breakthroughs. This lovely story from Bristol is a case in point.
We've just had a quick visit from OH's lovely nephew (one of many!) bearing gift of wine. He has been working in the area so thought he call in to see us. A nice surprise.
I never watch it [SPOTY] now @punkdoc, but I might have to download it just to see that. They are two magnificent men. Did you see any of the coverage of Doddie's funeral? There was a nice piece on our news up here.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Yes I did @Fairygirl and one of Doddies sons presented Kevin with his award. I loved the tartan suits that all of his sons wore at the memorial service.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Dodie's service dominated the local news here in Borders .... he and his family are very much part of the community, and the church and the rugby club stands at Melrose were full to bursting. Some of the speeches at the service from Dodie's pals were very moving and funny in equal measure.
Loved SPOTY ... we watch it every year ... but I do seem to remember that in the past there used to be a gimmick each year, which they don't do now. One year they had a formula one car and changed the wheels, another year Red Rum put in a guest appearance. It was a bit of fun really, and a shame it's not continued.

Luckily, they showed the Rob Burrow / Kevin Sinfield part on BBC Breakfast. I don't watch SPOTY either now. Far too PC. Only having a list of 6 is ridiculous, along with the requirement that there are 3 male and 3 female in that list. Sporting success at the highest level doesn't work that way. One year it all be men, and another it may be all women who should be on the list.

Rob Burrow / Kevin Sinfield winning their awards at SPOTY, so moving.

Lovely that one of his sons presented it. What a lovely family they seem to be.
