I'm not sure if this is a RTBC or a Curmudgeon one. My wife retires later this year and has started taking much more interest in the garden. It's costing me a bleedin' fortune in new plants.

Look on the positive side KT53. It would cost you more for a divorce so just smile sweetly eh?

You're probably right @Uff. I do find I'm having to bite my tongue on occasion with some of the plants she's taken a liking to. We've been in the house over 30 years and she's never really taken much interest in the garden so it's been done to my taste. I certainly don't want to dissuade her from taking an interest, but I did draw the line at Red Hot Pokers. It's the one plant I absolutely loathe, for no logical reason.
Just going to book a world cruise thanks to a massive unexpected windfall. I had the annual statement for a building society account I'd forgot all about. Interest payment this year - 8p.
I think I'll suggest that in future they notify my by e-mail and add the postage and handling costs to my interest payment.
