In September we lost our landline service for a couple of weeks because of cable theft - a major problem round here. Being on holiday for half the time and having a mobile meant the inconvenience was pretty minimal so I was delighted to receive an email from BT just now saying I am getting £176 compensation.
The sum is credited to my account and as I only pay about £15 a month for line rental charges I can put the Direct Debit on hold for a year. Making the day even better was a letter this morning from the DWP saying I’m getting £250 winter fuel payment - more than I was expecting. There’s no letter yet for Mrs Cotto so I don’t know if she’s getting the same.
That's good @BenCotto. We just got free gigas on our mobile roaming so we could tether to the net - and only after OH mentioned compensation to Orange for two extended periods without internet which also gives us French TV and a "fixed" line phone.
Doubly cheerful today. We've finally had enough rain to soften the ground enough to go bulb planting so that's me out in the fresh air this pm.
Just had confirmation of a visit from more friends next week - their first excursion abroad since Covid. Normally they jet about the place every year to places far and wide but he's diabetic so they're driving over to minimise risk.

@BenCotto the £250 payment is being made to all those who had their 66th birthday on or before the 25th September this year. My missus made it by 2 days.
My government letter says I wil get an extra £300 this year, on top of the normal. My oldest son (long term sickness) is with Shell and unaware of the "extra" benefit he is getting, I put in speach marks, because it had been taken away from his benefits, in the first place!!
I bought a kitchen scale in Waitrose a couple of weeks ago, only paid £8 but noticed it had a 15 year guarantee. Then realised I had shredded ( incinerated, actually) the receipt, so I had no proof of purchase. On the off chance, I emailed Waitrose customer service, they asked for a few details, and within 24 hours, have emailed me a copy of the receipt! I am really impressed!

Are you saying his other benefits have been reduced by £300 because of this additional payment?
I've been looking for books to suggest people get me for Christmas, as there is really nothing else I either want or need. I saw the latest book by Noel Fitzpatrick in the window of Waterstones and it certainly made me laugh. It's the most awful photograph I have seen in years. He looks as if he's either been embalmed or is half way through being made up to be Dame in the local panto. Have a look next time you're in your local town.
Just spend a really pleasant evening watching a video on Youtube of a road trip taken by a young couple through Norway, bottom to top, across to the east and back down again. Breathtaking.
Just un-stickyed myself and the kitchen after potting the second lot of marrow, lemon and ginger marmalade. It's really yummy... not so keen on most marrow jam recipes, but this one uses lemons sliced and cooked as if you're making marmalade, plus fresh ginger and lots of marrow, set with jam sugar. It doesn't taste of marrow at all, which is a relief after the number we've had to deal with since returning from holiday!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
