Thanks for all the good wishes 😀😀😀😀. Still feeling a bit proud of myself 😇🤓. And what next? A break for a bit, and then maybe the next level practical course next September. Oh, and I’ve applied to train to be a CAB advisor, which might keep my brain occupied for a while - nothing like a few illogical, poorly thought out, impenetrable Govt regulations to keep you on your toes.
Hope MiL’s situation becomes clearer soon @punkdoc. And @Hostafan1 - got nothing to add to the wise words already given, except for follow your heart, it will give you the answer that is right for you. I don’t think there is a “wrong” way - but you’ll know what feels right, if you know what I mean.
Early start for me today, as I have to get to college……after a late night. We didn’t get back from our London light peeping til midnight. It was all looking very festive, and has really got me in a Christmassy mood. Our house is all decorated - going to make the most of this year 🎄🎄🎄
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ OH is at Wrose picking up a couple of things I missed off the big order that was delivered yesterday … eh paracetamol and Ibuleve gel for the tendinitis around my Achilles which has suddenly appeared again after 12 months of no problems. What’s that about … it’s not as if I’ve been trekking up Cornish hills which is what caused it before 🙄
Im glad they’re not in a rush to discharge your MIL @punkdoc … hopefully it gives you all time to put together a helpful plan. 🤗
@chicky a friend was a CAB financial and benefits advisor … she said it was such a worthwhile thing to do and that it really opened her eyes to the Catch 22 situations that so many folk find themselves in.
Reflecting further on @Hostafan1 ‘s situation … a dear friend ‘F’ who died at home with support from the Hospice at Home team said to us that he was having “the best death possible” … but he and his wife (my best friend S) lived in a very close community where a rota of friends and family took on caring for them both … everything from the laundry to the food shopping was done by the folk on the rota, and S was able to rest and take time for herself knowing that F had someone with him at all times. S said she couldn’t have done it without them.

Off to the local mechanic this morning as one of my headlights is not working and as I am taking an older couple out on Saturday evening to a play, deem it necessary to get it seen to. Rarely out in the car after dark these days.
@Hostafan1 When I said No. I meant, No. You are not mad. I had my husband at home but he couldn't walk and had 2 visits from domestic nurses per day - morning and evening - to change the drip etc. These were his final days. Friends and family could visit more easily not having to make a long trip to the hospital. And yes, he was angry and abusive. I was glad I did it and I don't feel there are any ghosts or death memories or morbidity in the house. Just memories of the good times! He built this house so is ever present!!
@punkdoc I hope you are happy with the current MIL situation. Did her home get another battering with this last storm? I read with interest your Covid-19 remarks. Have had the third vaccination which apparently is only effective against the first Coronaviruses but hopefully will reduce the chances of getting Omicron. My OH and I are both retired so going out is pretty minimal. Masked and gelled up!!
I think Saturday evening will be our last sortie for a while. Quite a few events in Beziers have been cancelled due to the virus. Not going away for Christmas to my brother in Switzerland - not so much where he lives (small town just north of Geneva), but it's the stops necessary for coffee and wees in these mini baterial cafeterias teeming with microbes! Yes, there are other places to stop - picnic areas, but the toilets are the proverbial holes in the ground and oh! so smelly and you can't just stop on the side of the road. So we'll go later on when the time is right! will it ever be. Haven't seen him for 2 years now. Thank goodness for What's App!
Washing to be hung out in this cold but sunny breeze - mince pies and Lebkuchen to make this afternoon and probably a date and walnut cake.
Should be à busy day. Need to do more Christmas shopping, make mince pies and decorations for the Carol Service on Saturday, find the decorations in the loft where there are still unpacked boxes, and decorate the tree.
There used to be up to 200 people for the Carol Service in an ancient French Abbey. We would borrow 3 rooms to have mince pies and mulled wine. In recent years it got much smaller and we, the organisers and choir got older, so we moved to the Abbey Chapel. It will be a small affair this year, maybe 30 - 50, no party afterwards, but mince pies will be given out at the end.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Another wet and soggy day here and more to come but, apparently, next week will be dry and sunny so I can catch up on all those gardening jobs that are queuing up - morus nigra babies to plant out, ditto cornus and rose cuttings now big enough to cope, broad beans and sweet peas to sow and the new drought resistant shrubs to plant.........
Despite the miserable weather, the chooks are very lively and chatty and pleased to have the polytunnel to play in and indulge in their dust baths. Still only one egg a day tho.
Pleased that MIL is being looked after and that you have a breathing space to plan @punkdoc.
We're all getting older @Busy-Lizzie and having to decide more carefully about what we do. Hope your service goes well, even if reduced.
Have a good day everyone and take care.

Hello all, After a lovely, sunny, mildish morning during my usual walk, it turned cloudy and drizzly which is a shame but at least it is milder. Did some more washing which fortunately doesn't need ironing as I don't iron bed linen except for pillow cases. Just had a SM delivery but had half a dozen substitutions this week, most of which I rejected for different reasons. Instead of two small microwaveable Xmas puds, I was handed a 800 gm one which is far too big for just us but was advised to keep it as the delivery chappie said they were selling out fast of Xmas puds altogether and I might not get any more! It does say do not reheat once cooked but I always do, can't think why you shouldn't.
Do be careful @Busy-Lizzie if you are going up in the loft and alone in the house. Not a good idea. Enjoy your church do. Our Garden Club was having an actual meeting tonight, followed by coffee and mincepies but I'm in two minds whether to go or not. Haven't been all year so far and a bit inclined to miss it.
Has anybody else had an email from Amazon asking them to add another card as they are not accepting Visa Credit cards after January. I haven't been able to do it online and did wonder whether its a scam email?
Amazon are currently offering £10 if you add an acceptable (to them!) card other than Visa. You should see this when you look at your basket when logged in to Amazon.
Visa will lose out, they shouldn’t be charging fees more than other cards. Don’t be tempted to use a debit card on any internet site. I have a Mastercard, always have never wanted visa.
