Morning everyone, Sorry I thought I posted yesterday morning, but perhaps I forgot to press send 🤦🏻♀️😂 We went to poppet3 for the day, had a lovely time. Meant to post during the evening, but I dozed off. Which upset my sleep during the night, have been awake since 4.30. Its a beautiful sunny morning, I've got some wet cloth things hanging out already. Might cut the grass later, once the sun has dried the heavy dew. Have a lovely day, seeing friends, gardening or whatever you're doing. Take care
Good morning Ruby and SGL. Good to see you SGL - I was wondering where you were. You are lucky to have the sun and I'm hoping Handy brother in Bognor is enjoying sun too. Put your feet up this afternoon.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I woke up late this morning. Last night my left foot ached and when I went to bed it was very painful. Eventually took pain killers and went to sleep. Foot seems OK today.
Sunny outside, must get out and do some gardening before it gets too hot.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Just nipped outside for half an hour. A few days ago I saw a forecast that mentioned "a swathe of gales"
It's only breezy at the moment but a bit of overnight damage has been inflicted so maybe the first gale has been and gone.
I've done a bit of tying up and put a couple of stakes in for some cosmos that were leaning alarmingly. Fingers crossed for the sunflowers - I don't possess any canes long enough to support those monsters so they are unsupported for the top 2-3ft of their growth ie. the important bit
Lots of leaves on the ground - autumn has arrived!
Morning all. LB enjoy your time with bestie and having your hair coloured today. Lily you can rest after a lovely time yesterday. Hazel sorry to hear you had a stressful day yesterday but glad all okay now. Yvie have a lovely time away. Feels quite cool today after a quick nip to the bin. Alfie ate too much and had an upset tummy but seems okay now. He does seem to wolf things down in a morning. Time for a cuppa.
High Bluebell . I hope that you slept well.Hazel Oh had another good nights sleep . Thank you for asking . It s quite cool here today. OH has cut my hair . He has made a good job of it .I am very pleased because I don’t like going to the hairdresser .Lily I hope that you have a better nights sleep tonight.
Afternoon all. Been AWOL for a few days but been rather busy.
Went down to Kent where OH was at a race meeting for 4 days. I had a good mooch round pretty Rye and a day out to Bateman's (NT) on the Saturday. Came home on Sunday to thunderstorms and heavy rain - the first proper rain we've had in 6 weeks.
SM run plus a delivery of a big trailer load of logs on Monday - which then all had to be stacked. Double depth filled all 3 log stores which (combined with cleaning the motorhome & cutting the grass) took up most of Tuesday. Yesterday was getting things ready for the window people, researching electricity tariffs and a trip to get my hair cut and highlighted (must be something in the water LB 🙂) and today the window / door people have been here.
The saga of the replacement doors and windows goes on and on and on and on... Should all have been finished today but - no - the factory sent the wrong coloured window for one of the bedrooms - cream instead of Painswick Grey. The right coloured cill but the wrong coloured frame - how could somebody not have noticed??? Last time they sent the wrong design of window for that room🤬. The fitters were also not 100% happy with the lock mechanism for the french windows so that needs to be changed.
The small family business doing the installation are very embarrassed and as frustrated and irritated as I am with all the problems we've had (they've all been mistakes by the factory). We'll all be so happy when it's all finished.
I've had a quick read back. Hope everybody's tummies are settling down and there are not too many horror stories of energy price rises. I've just signed us up for a fixed price electricity tariff with British Gas. Price is fixed until Nov 2023 and means paying more right now but at least I know what I'm budgeting for over the next 2 years. My existing tariff would have ended in December and I have a nasty feeling that the variable rate will be rather expensive next year - and that there will also be no cheaper deals available. So I'm taking a punt now - fingers crossed it pays off.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
You are lucky to have an OH who can cut hair, Rubee.
I hope the windows are all sorted out in the end and you are pleased with them, Topbird.
I've done a bit more digging of the jewel bed and weeded the round bed. At last I've found the new, unopened soil testing kit that I bought before the move, so I tested various bits of the garden. The flower beds are all 6 and the bit of the veg garden that I did was 7. When we moved to the last house it was between 8 and 9. After years of horse manure, leaf mould, compost it was 7.5. Not limestone here.
P came this afternoon. He and CB are going to do the cementing around the stones on the outside walls of the dining room extension, for which I will pay them. The sand and cement is being delivered next week.
Don't think I've mentioned, this weekend I'm going to Lourdes, in the Pyrenees, with Son 2 and family. Son wants to cycle on a mountain pass and DIL wants to see the shrine. DIL and I will look after the children when Son cycles. He's booked rather a grand looking hotel. Leaving tomorrow afternoon, 3 1/2 hour drive, have to be there in time for dinner.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Evening all. I've had a super day today with Bestie and her daughter who did my hair. We had loads of nibbles and endless cups of tea. It does not seem like a week since I was last there. We didn't get into the garden and we all felt that there had been a distinct drop in the temperature.
Biglad, I've definitely been swathed in gales today so I hope that your sunflowers can still hold their heads up. Hazel, glad to hear you had a happy visit with your Mum. She sounds a feisty lady. RosieBB I hope that Alfie has recovered.
T'Bird, good to see you. Thats both you and Busy who have been shifting logs - who needs a gym membership! I agree with you, how on earth could the mistake in the window frame colour have been made. I bet you and your OH are extremely hacked off with this company - and the poor chaps who cannot get the installation finished. Lets hope it is all complete by Halloween.
Busy, I hope that you haven't had any further trouble with your foot. Is it the foot you use to push the spade into the soil by any chance? You have had a productive time in your garden. It will be nice to have your mini break in Lourdes as well.
