I'm trying to encourage mine to grow up to the top of the trellis-topped fence and then go along it so I can see it from my kitchen window. It's actually planted on the outside of the fence, primarily for the neighbours' benefit! I haven't had many blooms either.
That's so lovely @Fire, the roses are gorgeous too. Thank you for thinking of me. I think tomorrow i will start pruning, either that or I'll be drafted into leaf clearance duty. I'd rather do important rose maintenance
I'm waiting till Feb to do my main pruning. I am an inveterate over-pruner, but I will force myself not to prune out any main canes. I will wait a few more years as most climbers are quite new in. My snipping fingers get so itchy. 🙄
Next year I am determined to nurture fewer plants, but in a more focussed way, with closer care. This year was overwhelming. My garden became a self-seeded jungle - which is kind of great, but all waaaay too much for me to keep track. I took out a lot and put a lot in; always 100 jobs on the list. I discover that my garden needs to be simpler for me to cope happily.

It's been great to see so many neighbours enjoying rose growing and get breathless about it. We seem to be keeping DA in business. Of all our plants, it is the one that locals seem to get most excited about - which is useful to discover.
Our community growing group has built over the year, gaining trust and delighting in sharing gear, cuttings, seeds and free plants. Confidence has grown in each other and they find that things like growing bulbs and taking cuttings isn't as hard as they thought. I get messages saying 'squeeee!' as someone managed to propogate a beloved fig that belonged to their late mother; And I get photos of a new rose bloom just out. People share a late sunflower they never thought would bloom and of cucumbers growing in their kitchen.
It's kind of hard to feel tangible progress with the group as it's all about littles piece of help and connection - but we feel stronger and we are still here and still going. And that's the main thing. 🌱
Did some gardening today preparing for some various bare-roots. Still some colour to be found. I’ll just name the roses, if anyone wants any other names let me know.
Hi all, many of my roses have shed their leaves and gone to sleep but there’s still some going.

Malvern Hills just keeps on going - lovely fresh foliage on it still
Out of focus, but this is just showing how that incredible octopus cane that I bent down and tied in (red dot) just keep growing! Sneaked behind the drain pipe and then just kept growing downwards. Shows how ramblers like this aren’t fussy about what direction they grow in.
Was up the ladder the other week, and it’s already grown considerably since then, that top cane needs some vine eyes pitting in on the main house wall now!
Enjoying leaf drop and being able to see the structure of the roses more - this is Royal a Jubilee.
Autumn colour from my (nibbled) Rugosa seedlings.
Must just say that of the new plants I bought this year, I’ve been really impressed with this Geranium Elsworthy Eyecatcher. First year plant but it’s flowered through the whole year.
Bare-roots from Style Roses - 'The Bees Knees' and 'Dream Lover'. They arrived more than a week ago but I only now unpacked them... luckily they were well-packed with roots wet. And now I don't have compost to plant them and I am too busy to do it. At least I got some gardening done today, but to be honest, I don't like autumn gardening - everything's overgrown, it's cold and it feels like work. 'The Bees Knees' is quite thorny. Random flowering roses And an autumn scene - 'Our Beth' blooming, 'Chippendale' still has nice foliage, 'Crepuscule' in the raised bed also looking good.
Could you just heel in those roses @edhelka for the time being. They'll be okay for a few months if necessary. I'm with you on autumn gardening, I don't much like it either, although yesterday morning wasn't too bad, at least the sun was shining.
I'd like suggestions for some really small roses folks. I've got an area about 3 metres long and 1 metre wide where I'm taking out 3 large box balls and box hedging (box moth caterpillar). It's the only flat place we can put the rotary dryer though so the roses can't be more than half a metre high or they'll snag the sheets. Any ideas please? I've got a newish yellow rose right at one end of this tier (which might or might not survive) and two Little White Pets in the raised terrace bed below and apricot roses in the foreground.
Just seen in new Dec. issue of GW, a set of 3 plastic tubs, frost proof, with drainage holes and handles, 37cm x 40cm for £9.99. Just right for young rose bushes? Think I'll get some. Oh, just noticed P&P is £6.99, anybody know what the current GC price is each please?

@Omori, what are the blue flowers next to nasturtium? They are beautiful!
