A friend's jasmine is covered in buds. Is that a bit early? The first plum blossom is out by us too. It feels like the start of the year proper when the plum is blooming.
...nice plants Tack.. these Parahebes are brilliant..
.. this is 'Champagne Moment'... in the process of repotting I noticed it has already put down a mass of its own roots.. I only planted it last summer..
Had my first trip to the plot today since Covid isolation and very pleased to report that everything was exactly as I left it! Phew! No damage from the wind either.
Some quite advanced growth on a couple of roses like this on Emily Bronte
By far the strongest from Lady of the Lake though. Covered in this sort of growth with the leaves unfurling. New basal bottom left photo
@Marlorena Thats a huge root system on your Indigo.. I have heard that we can go ahead and prune the long thick roots if needed.. and its only the fibrous kind of roots that we have to be worried.. any problem in giving roots a haircut?
All my plants have some growth on them due to an early prune, but temps are dipping most nights.. hope we don't get any bad frosts.. Below is Chandos Beauty, much ahead of many other roses in terms of new foliage..
...roses all coming along beautifully... I fear a beast from the east in March don't you? somethings got to happen, we've had no winter here.. not one snowflake..
@cooldoc ...yes it's ok to prune roots for potting purposes, I often do it and doesn't cause any problems.. my Prince Jardinier is in a pot and I root pruned it.. ... the main one to cut is the thick taproot which is the one on the right in my Indigo picture.. it's that taproot on 'laxa' that can cause problems for roses in too small pots long term as it has nowhere to go.. this taproot is peculiar to 'laxa' and not found on other stocks like this.. I've just planted the rose in the ground so I didn't need to prune anything.. I like to keep all the roots if planting in soil..
Hello Rose lovers. Today some lovely secateurs arrived in the post and I am ready to start pruning for my old, large rose bush I have 2 questions please: 1) Can anyone advise, for the crossing branches, should I cut off the thick brown old branch or the thinner (but healthy looking) new green one? I've tried to upload a photo but unfortunately my phone is using HEIC files which are unsupported here. 2) Around the bottom there is a shasta daisy infestation. Should I pull them all up or can some of them live in harmony? (Usually the rose does well despite the daisies but last year the rose suffered badly from black spot, - but so it seems did all my friends' roses too) Thank you for any advice!
