Thanks @Eustace- my spot gets western afternoon sun, but not sure it would be enough. I might give it a go in a wine box...  What is your experience of it in the last year?

To add on to @Tack's review, mine has been very healthy, almost continuously in flower since June and has a strong fragrance.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

@fire I just use a long bamboo cane and whack at any hanger-on-ers. Albertine is like that and it’s quite therapeutic in a way 😆

Good luck with the seed experiment @Mr. Vine Eye

I grew Blush Noisette on the North facing wall of our previous house and it was fine. It flowered continuously from June through to December and was almost evergreen. I have it on a pergola post in this garden facing west and it seems equally happy. It does ball a bit in heavy rain but I deadhead by giving a shake until all the flowers in a cluster have bloomed and then cutting the cluster off.

...good points... I have roses near paving and the petals do stick to it, and stain it.. have to get the pressure washer out now and then..
