Thanks @Eustace- my spot gets western afternoon sun, but not sure it would be enough. I might give it a go in a wine box... What is your experience of it in the last year?
I bought mine potted summer last year @Fire, planted it out in the autumn. It faces south but only gets sun for the first half of the day in the summer and much less in the lower sun months due to huge trees to the south of it and hedge about 30cm to the west. I really like it, I find it floriferous, healthy and wonderfully scented. I was worried about how the blooms went over but the shaking and brushing off the petals if they are hanging on is a matter of moments, so no regrets. A pic today that was just intended as a record for me
..here's a before and after pic of a 'Blush Noisette' cluster taken the other day... location is not a problem for this rose, it's only issue are the spent blooms which turn a dirty colour.. I also just rummage my fingers through the cluster or give the stem a good shake to dislodge.. ..tidied up..
'Donatella'.. 'Frilly Cuff'.. 'Nathalie' Nypels'.. 'Nye Bevan'.. in shade.. it can only get better.. 'The Country Parson..' ..large developing hips on Tottering by Gently.. Gaura 'Pink Dwarf'..
First time posting on the rose thread, though a long time reader, and must say it's always a treat to look in.
I just thought I'd mention that I grew Blush Noisette in a very prominent place, with paving close by. The paving would get showered with petals that stuck in wet weather and would not sweep up (might not be an issue in drier places.) I moved it to where a good shake now sends the petals into grass, and it's much easier on the eye! A lovely rose with a scent that carries.
I grew Blush Noisette on the North facing wall of our previous house and it was fine. It flowered continuously from June through to December and was almost evergreen. I have it on a pergola post in this garden facing west and it seems equally happy. It does ball a bit in heavy rain but I deadhead by giving a shake until all the flowers in a cluster have bloomed and then cutting the cluster off.
