I dont defoliate, but only because I dont have time. What I have noticed is the old leaves get blackspots or just wither and drop mid season when new ones are green and nice. So I feel if defoliated, the plant will look better overall later. I still havent planned a day to prune and tidy. I have a work deadline for Feb mid. Hopefully after that...
This is a good list of climber highlights, including many recommended and beloved on this thread. I grow several myself. It's interesting to see Jason praising S d Dr Jamain.
As one commenter wrote "my bank account is in tears".
@Marlorena, @Mr. Vine Eye Oh the delights of things to come... My only significantly flowering rose from last june, my buxom floribunda now relocated into new rose bed
Anyone's snowdrops out yet? mine are just showing..
Today I noticed shoots coming up from Iris reticulata in one of my pots.
Lovely roses everyone! Can’t wait for spring to start. All my roses have kept their leaves. Been busy with work but will try to get around to pruning them soon. To what final height would you cut down first year roses? I have Olivia Rose Austin, Roald Dahl and Vanessa Bell.
This one isn’t mine, I took the photo at the Burggarten in Rothenburg ob der Tauber years ago when we used to live in Germany. I didn’t know anything about roses then. If you recognise this rose let me know — I remember it was a climber.
