@Woodgreen ..yes, a good choice.. my rose gets morning sun, not much in the afternoon... ..it gives a splendid first flush over a long period, to early August.. then I snip off the spent buds only, there is no need to prune back with polyantha roses as they shoot out from just below where the old buds were, from short shoots.. then readies for a late summer flush, from early Sept.. this year anyway..
I just took this picture...it seems a lesser flush but lots of buds to come out..
.I seem to be repeating all the same roses, obviously don't have enough variety.. 'Frilly Cuff'... this is becoming a favourite, and it has quite a good musky scent too.. I love the cherry red colour which really stands out.. 'Kew Gardens'.. 'Tahiti'.. 'Armada'.. 'Donatella'.. 'Nye Bevan'.. Sedum 'Autumn Joy'.. C. 'The Vagabond'.. flowers into November usually... Phlox panic. 'Amethyst', seems to be the longest flowerer of the 6 or 7 I have from this group..
Thanks @Marlorena I'll order it this evening. Lovely photos. I think it was seeing one of your photos that made me focus on Natalie Nypels. My Marie Pavie has just finished a sort of second flush and though there are tiny shoots appearing the weather's going downhill here (Cumbria) so I won't expect too much. But it's been an odd year so who knows?
Thank you @Marlorena, that’s very kind, shame about Chawton Cottage that looked a nice rose. Marie Pavie is certainly a big winner for me so far. I have one either side of my front door in matching pots @Woodgreen and they always look healthy and covered in blooms, although one is much bigger than the other so I will have to swap them round occasionally. I’m sold on polyanthas too, although few seem very fragrant, always a compromise somewhere.
On hulthemia/persica roses @pandakoalagirl49lS9c8QR_ I tried Eyes for You last year but just didn’t take to it, so I’m not sure I’ll try another either, yet JessicaS’ always look fabulous. DA’s that are healthy for me are Gertrude Jekyll, Harlow Carr and especially The Prince, but most of my others have poor health. Still, wouldn’t be without Munstead Wood!
Here is The Prince foliage, which is astonishingly healthy for the end of September:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Oh that's ok, thank you... I've seen some nice roses on house walls in Cumbria but it was the Acer's that took my eye on frequent visits... but that was the Lake District..
I'm considering asking the powers that be here, to create a separate Roses forum, for next year perhaps, I feel it's long overdue and should be separated out from 'Plants'.. roses are not just 'plants'.. There's plenty for chit chat, wildlife, design, fruit and veg..
Too many questions about roses end up in various sections and we don't always see them I think... well I don't for sure ...
I do get slightly irritated when they are reduced to the level of Chives and Tagetes, although they have their good uses, especially as companions.. .. I gather they're not terribly responsive these days, to suggestions and suchlike which isn't surprising ... but we'll give it a go.. it may attract more international members..
Yes that would be a great idea Marlorena, no idea why it isn't here already. I don't even want to venture into the rest of the forums at the moment, it's so toxic, but definitely would be good to separate out the rose queries.
@newbie77 I have RSI and when it gets bad it leads to finger pain and numbness, I'm not sure if this applies to you but I use one of those flexible wraparound wrist braces when that happens, which helps.
A bouquet of random fragrant roses that are open at the moment, mainly hybrid tea.
I love fragrant randoms... very nice display @Omori although I'm puzzled at the arrangement,.. oh is one vase a reflection of the other? can't quite work how you got that picture .. I like the pensive figurine bottom right too..
.. most years I plant Busy Lizzies but none this year nor last, however this one has sprung up or seeded. I recall having a pink one in this location.. I know they are weeds in warm climates..
