@pitter-patter ...some lovely clematis, you have a good range.. I wonder how we all pronounce Clematis.. I put the emphasis on the 1st syllable, so CLEMatis.. and admit to finding it rather odd when somebody says it any other way, especially like clemAHHtiss.. although that may be correct..
@Rojas ..perhaps you might like this one, which has become a favourite of mine.. I only have about 14 now.. 'Star of India'.. this is especially good with Old Roses as it's historic in itself, from the 1860's.. and surprisingly has never wilted on me... I say surprisingly as it's seed parent is C. lanuginosa, and the pollen parent also has C. lanuginosa in it... C. lanuginosa is the clematis, found in China by Robert Fortune in the 1850s that conveys the wilt syndrome to most gr. 2 Clematis which have it in its lineage, which is pretty much all of them... Starts flowering in July from a hard winter prune..
Here's what a Norwegian grower says of it.. ''Being named for India ,which I over the years have come to regard as my second home country, I am very happy indeed to say that I find this clematis one of the most beautiful of all the clematises I have in my garden. As it also grows and flowers very well, it has become a favourite.So far it has never been affected by the withering disease, and it is also quite shade tolerant in my garden. It is as far as I know one of the oldest clematises still on the market, but nevertheless outshining many a newer one. Highly recommendable.''
..another Spring like day today... temps reached the magic 70F in my greenhouse.. .. nice to have a few Snowdrops in full flush.. ..this is way too early, about a month ahead..
@Marlorena Thank you. I’m afraid I pronounce it as clem-ah-tis but I’m not a native English speaker and sometimes I struggle with pronouncing Latin/Greek words the way the English natives do. I’ve studied Latin at university and my spontaneous pronunciation of latin words is very much influenced by that. The snowdrops are absolutely beautiful, such a cheerful sight!
@edhelka
Hi,.. I'm asking you this question because I think you're most familiar with who I'm talking about.
On Instagram I used to follow a lady who posted under 'Rose of the Day'.. I think her name was Debbie and she lives in Suffolk... she hasn't posted for nearly 2 years.. I know she has a Facebook page but I'm not registered on there... do you know if she's still posting about her roses somewhere? she had nearly 500, some rare and unusual - a few I've had in the past.. an amazing list, still on HMF...
Just wondered.. I don't want to get in touch with her or anything, just puzzled why she's not doing IG any more.. thought you might know.. ?.
@Marlorena I was worried about her too but she recently started to post on Facebook again, not every day but regularly. Her last daily post on FB was 2/5/20. Then two isolated posts on 23/12/20 and 1/7/21 (basically saying the reasons for not posting - work, internet trolls and vile messages, personal life problems etc. - and promising to restart). Then she started posting again on 1/1/21, posting approx. every three days. I don't know about IG.
@edhelka oh ok, thanks.. good to know she's still posting now and then.. such a shame life's problems get in the way but happens to us all.. who on earth would send vile messages to a rosarian?.. oh well..
