Anyone know when we can usually expect to start seeing the dreaded sawfly again this year. Their numbers have been growing in my garden for the last 2-3 years now despite all my attempts to get rid of 'em.

repotted this little patio rose this morning. It's nowt special but it keeps on trying despite my neglect, so figured it has earned some TLC.

Found these little blighters hiding among the roots

A white grub is a white grub to me, but my ever present gardening companion Robin seemed to enjoy them.
    Any ideas?
Just another day at the plant...

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

Urrrgghh! Vine weevils. Nasty buggers. Year or two ago I emptied out a pot that had had a sedum in. There was absolutely nothing left of it in the pot. Just hundreds of vine weevils.

I've found them in rose pots too. They are however horrible, if you have potted primulas/primroses, heuchera,  hydrangeas, hyacinths, fuchsia, lilies, strawberries etc. They eat the roots and plants will die soon. I would rather dispose off the entire compost from that pot, wash the roots and repot in a fresh medium.
