I would just plant it, they grow perfectly well from those smaller pots, I never grow them on.   I can tell you though that this Clematis is prone to mildew, mine got it all over the plant from top to toe one year.. so I removed it.. it was covered in flowers about 5 feet tall at the time.. so you might want to watch out for that..
It was a big plant at purchase, in a 10ltr pot..

'Petit Faucon' is similar but never got mildew..

Thanks Marlorena, I was leaning towards just planting it.

Means I’ll have to find another spot for my mystery cuttings - I say mystery as I’m not certain where they came from, but we were very close to Graham Thomas when he found the stick, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for that!

They're still green above the soil line - after two weeks - so hope remains that they could take.

@Mr. Vine Eye, when I had Arabella, it was short and didn't climb much. I can't remember anything else though. I have planted clematis from small pots directly in garden. I have lost some to slugs/snails but rest survived.

Yes it's a herbaceous type. Scrambles rather than climbs. In MIL's garden it scrambles up, to about 3-4ft but that's fine for me, I just want it to complement the rose rather than smother the wall. It also fills that gap and will stop me using that corner as a dump! 😁

Looks like Darcey Bussel, Blush Noisette and Golden celebration will be the first roses to flower this season in my garden. Unfortunately I'll be away from home for the next month. So, I'll be vicariously enjoying the roses through your photos. I'm looking forward to the wonderful pictures of your new acquisitions as well as old. Keep them coming!

After seeing @Marlorena's suggestion of Star of India clematis, I got one and have planted it among the roses at my son's garden. I'm hoping to get one for my garden after I return.

And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)
