Sudden downpour with thunder and lightning here. Hope most of it blows over for the weekend, we have a wedding to attend.

    Evening.

Was pondering making an apple cake for the work girls so may I suggest something similar for your menu @D0rdogne_Damsel. I usually just do a basic sponge with added apple pieces (and bit of mixed spice) - good with either a blackberry or a maple syrup with pecans buttercream. Dorset apple cake is also a crowd-pleaser - Autumnal. Vote for lemon drizzle too - can’t beat that zing!

Happy to report that the apple tart made with butter pastry was very tasty and OH gave it his sign of approval - he asked for more. I've frozen the individual ones in a plastic container as they are not needed till Saturday.

Unfortunately, my brother's just phoned to say he's not coming (he's in Manchester) as he's worried about the petrol situation. That's a shame as I haven't seen him since March but I'm expecting more relatives who live further away to also pull out of our family do but we'll wait and see.

  • Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm sorry @Obelixx, I'd forgotten your links, the last few months have been a bit of a blur.

I'm feeling suitably inspired now and will post pictures of the bakes to come. Definitely some recipes worthy of being Cake of the Day.

Fingers crossed they sort the petrol situation out soon @Lizzie27, shame if it  spoils your plans. 😕

Thanks DD, fingers crossed here as well. Actually, if fewer rellies turn up, it gives more chances to just sit and talk to the others. Tomorrow I've got to print out all the family trees for them to look out. My mum was one of six, who all had 3 or more children so there's lots of us!

I feel stuffed now - all of those wonderful bakes you have been doing and Bake Off as well!  And we had a big fat bar of chocolate between us to celebrate OH's birthday.  We know how to live!
@Dovefromabove - you may be thinking you will come back to a well soaked garden, but if where you are in Norfolk is anywhere like we are in Suffolk, yes we've had a few short sharp downpours but nothing that will really penetrate and give the ground a good soaking.
The troll seems to have gone a bit quiet.  Let's hope it stays that way.

We’ve got a bit of rain. Noticed a Wallaby with Joey in front of the house. A bit hard to see, but if I went on the verandah to get a better photo, she’d hop off. I’ll try again.

Good morning all 😊 ☕️ Hope you all slept well.  Love the wallabies @Pat E 😊

A blustery night but a simply gorgeous morning … blue skies and white fluffy clouds scudding along … OH has gone out to inspect the sea state but I’ve a feeling it might not be a swimming morning. I rather fancy a full Cornish while watching the crazy ones with their big Malibu boards.
