Up early (for me these days 😊) to fit in a couple of hours of swotting before heading down to my sisters to celebrate my niece’s 21st birthday. As you can imagine, we all remember her 1st birthday party very clearly …..but for all the wrong reasons ☹️.
The Piet Oudolf borders at Hauser and Wirth are worth seeing. And we had them to ourselves because it was a bit mizzly drizzly. Very atmospheric.
Bon voyage to the donkey @Busy-Lizzie …..I’ll miss his antics. And 🤞🏻for OH’s appointment next week - hope that will get his op back on track. Great news for you @Yviestevie ……hope it all goes well a d you are soon back to your bouncy self.
I slept like a log but had a very strange dream involving clambering down a metal staircase that had no stairs! 😨 I wonder if it was to do with scaffolding going up next door for some asbestos removal work.
We’re hoping to go to MIL’s for a couple of days while it happens … OHs father died of mesothelioma… we try to stay away from asbestos. Have i told you all this before? Sorry if I’m repeating myself.
Anyway OH will check with a colleague today that it’s ok to swap a shift and then I can cancel the milk for a couple of days.
MIL has asked if, while we’re there, we will put up a trellis on the shed for her climbing rose. She’ll not be there as she’s off to Torquay with her brother for a few days.
We’ll probably do a bit of garden tidying for her while we’re there, but Id like to pay another visit to John Clare’s cottage which is nearby,
Morning folks,no of course I haven't just got up. Fed dogs, walked plot,(picked up their ,"leavings") hoped everywhere would be lovely and damp after that big storm, doesn't appear so. You all know about weeds encroaching from next door, walked to shop, met lady I know by sight, she said how lovely our border looked and it was a pleasure to see it when she walks by. Told her I grew the plants from seed, she was astounded, purple prince zinnia and 2 varieties of cosmos. A couple of Dahlias I bought this year. I was chuffed she pulled a certain face at next door garden. So pleased for you Hosta. Hubbies mate some years back was sent to France by the NHS for a hip replacement, and I know they used to send patients to the private hospitals to cut down on waiting lists
Morning all. John Clare's cottage looks lovely @Dovefromabove. Now got Dancing Queen stuck in my head @Hostafan1! But glad there was a spark of joy for you both. Still no rain here and none in the forecast now. Which is good for tomorrow (Garden Market) but I was hoping that a)the garden would get watered and b)the ground would be soft enough for me to hammer in the 'Parking this way' signs on the roundabout later. But also feeling sombre remembering that awful day in New York. I still have a programme from a visit made to the top of one of the twin towers when there visiting a friend in NY.
I sadly watched that dreadful program about Grenfell, and the problems with the updating 2 full years before the fire. My oldest daughter moved into her local authority house 2 years ago last month, water ingression, damp, mould, spent all that time fighting with them. She's not stupid, she knows exactly what to say and do. She's a manager for one of the big supermarkets, used to work for TFL in charge of a huge team
Good morning Forkers. Bright and sunny here and set to stay that way a few days. Sewing room clean and tidy for me this am before it gets too warm for HW.
Maybe OH should ask for a home BP monitor @Busy-Lizzie. OH had one for 10 days when his then GP in Belgium was concerned and thinking of putting him on beta blockers. Turns out it was much lower at home tho high when he got home from work - stressful period at the office.
Hope you can get those shifts swapped @Dovefromabove and have mini holiday to warm up for the real thing.
Still not convinced about Piet Oudolph @chicky. Love the perennials but too many grasses.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Thank you @chicky. I hope the cardiologist gives the go-ahead for OH's op. It's my oldest grandson's birthday today, too. He's 16.
@Obelixx OH has a home BP monitor. He has to keep a chart of his BP, which the anaesthetist was given. It's always normal, even low at home, sure I've said. That's why it's so frustrating. I agree about Piet Oudolph, lovely perennial planting but too many grasses.
Caesar, the donkey left early this morning. I hope the 5 hour journey goes well. The vet gave P a tranquiliser for him. He's going to a donkey sanctuary, he should make friends there https://www.assoadada.fr/
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I love Piet Oudolph’s planting when it is on a grand scale like that, although am not keen on too many grasses when its done on a small scale. But the place we went to yesterday was on a very grand scale, so all very tactile, dreamy and calming. I loved it. Good job we’re all different 🤣🤣🤣
Come on now @Dovefromabove, you must have got wind of the fact we're planning to visit our friends near Hunstanton., this week I know when you're avoiding me 🤣
Of course @Allotment Boy .... running for the 'hills' 🏃♀️🏃♂️
@didyw ... hope it all goes really well, but I'm afraid the change of plans means we'll not be able to get to your garden market ... shame 😢 I'd got a 'little' list ........... maybe we'll go to the independent garden centre near MIL's ... it's much cheaper than Notcutts
John Clare's cottage and garden are so interesting, and there's an incredible feeling of tranquillity ... a real connection to his-story and his poetry, which I love. A few years ago @WonkyWomble and I went there to a garden poetry reading by Wendy Cope ... a really lovely afternoon.
Edited to add: OH has been able to swap his shift ... we can go to MIL's next week.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
