Punkdoc, you reminded me of a family camping holiday as a child. No fancy camp beds or air beds for us in those days, it was sleeping bags on the groundsheet. One of my brothers kept waking in the night, accusing the rest of us of scratching him on the back. When we took the tent down next morning, and lifted the groundsheet, there were several patches of earth on the grass that hadn’t been there when we pitched the tent. I can imagine the moles were pretty frustrated to keep coming up under all those sleeping bodies.
Sunny morning here. Slept in after watching the end of the tennis last night. What’s the significance of ‘sweet Caroline’ ?
It sort of accidentally became the England fans' anthem during Euro 2020 ... and now seems to have been embraced by UK fans at all sorts of sporting events ... it's a good singalong melody and there's those words "Good times never seemed so good" ... says it all really.
Thanks, Dove. I thought maybe I’d heard her name wrong! A song I remember well, although not all of the words!
It's been a lovely sunny day. The grandchildren played while I cooked lunch and Son 2 strimmered and mowed along my boundary where there is a little river. It was full of brambles. We had lunch on the terrace then went fishing (?!) in the river. The children had bamboo canes and string and Son had a flimsy line that he won in a raffle. No fish were seen! There had been some in the spring. Not the season now though.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hi folks. I’m absolutely shattered after spending the day with Gabriel and Jonah at Warwick Castle. Must have walked miles. The birds of prey show was unbelievable. Worth the entrance money on its own.
Watched the tennis last night and it was amazing. One of the best matches I’ve seen in a long time.
I know what you mean @Yviestevie, we went to Warwick Castle some years ago and it's huge. Although expensive to get in, you certainly get value for money if you've got the stamina to do everything.
Sounds a good day @Busy-Lizzie, even though no-one caught fish.
Long week-end, Really busy Saturday, gosh I thought all the tourists had gone home ....so wrong, then we had an Indian Soiree, everyone was very impressed with the curries, my best to date, even if I do say so myself. I will look up the carrot cake @Obelixx for next time. Thank you. But obviously a late one. Busy Sunday, but I was supposed to finish at 4pm, so all do-able, until my replacement chef phoned in with a broken motorbike, can't get to work, no friends or family to bring her, so a 13 hour day for me today, and so it goes on......
I have however, booked two holidays, one for half term here in October (Toussaint), we're going down to the south of France ( an historic place Charlie will love - he's decided he wants to be an history teacher for the moment) and then my annual (except Covid year) ski holiday.
This time though for the ski holiday I have reserved a luxury hotel with a spa and pool. Charlie and I have used the pool as guests previously (at great expense) and have always admired the place, but this time we can afford to stay there all week and use the pool for "free". We have had years of staying in a tiny studio apartment, even they are not cheap, but this time we are having a bit of luxury, it is gorgeous, in the centre of the ski village, right next to the ski lifts, with underground parking (we have had to dig the car out each time previously), we have a bedroom each, no sofa beds that we have to climb over each other to go the loo...ridiculously expensive, but we have earned it and will enjoy every moment. Charlie is bringing a friend this time too so hopefully I won't have to ski like a 14 year old and can spend some time watching them in the apres ski bar halfway up the mountain with a chocolat chaud or even better a vin chaud!
I am very happy and very excited to be making time to spend out of CdeG with Charlie. I know he is my son amd I am obviously biased, but he is absolutely adorable and is so loving, such a gentleman too, he always rushes to help me carry bags or open doors or fetch me things, helps me on the conputer or mobile phone to understand new technology/apps - I couldn't get the phone to ring the other day it had got stuck in silent mode, he was there twiddling with all the knobs to sort it out, anything to help me. I am very proud of him - although if he could find a way to get his dirty clothes into a washing basket I would be even more proud.....seriously, what is that about ....?
Anyway, good night all, end of ramble, excess energy burned off, hugs to all, take care and of course an especially big hug to @Hostafan1. xx

We’ve been out to our back paddock for some firewood. lovely dry old Eucalyptus trunks. They should burn well. 👏. I just got in and made the cups of tea, when I could hear tinkle, tinkle. Went out to the verandah and was able to lick up a couple of nice icy hail stones. Good timing with our outside adventures. 🙄

@punkdoc, that's a positive start I'd say!
