Well done @chicky, I never doubted you would

You seem to have bad luck with car batteries and good luck with the AA @Dovefromabove! I remember that happening with your old car when you came to us for coffee.

The GC didn't have any spring bulbs. She was surprised I asked, said it's way too early and they arrive October/November! I thought September was daffodil planting month.

He is out for a walk with Moira at the moment.
He got a good late night session in the garden last night and again at about 6 this morning.

Afternoon all, we overslept this morning so I had to shoot out of bed to get to my massage session in time. I've had a right old 'good going over' as they say, on my shoulder/neck/back and now ache all over but in a good way. My beautician is very good at massages thankfully.  Been told not to do much today so obeying instructions whilst waiting for daughter to arrive for the weekend. Had to try three pubs before I could get a booking for tomorrow night.

Congratulations @chicky, you deserved a gold star pass, you've worked so hard on that this past year. Brownsea Island is one of my favourite places as one associated with my childhood. My Dad used to sail round the Island in his small yacht whenever he could. The red squirrels are magical.

Sounds like you are more at ease now that you have a canine visitor @Punkdoc, despite the blood test delay. My friend will probably be in the same boat, as will my youngest brother.

We're making sure we take the car out regularly for a long run so the battery doesn't go flat @Dovefromabove, so far, so good. I think the idea that the virus could be transmitted on the shopping has long been discounted, probably a complete waste of time now.

  • Well done @chicky 🥂  Enjoy your outing  :)

It was a valve or something with the Renault @Busy-Lizzie although we had battery problems with it the previous year.  The AA man said that this battery was Italian so was probably the original, fitted to the car when new which means it's done double the normal number of years, so I won't complain.   :D  I'm just glad it's sorted before we drive down to Cornwall.  We'd probably have to wait longer for the AA down there 🙄

Just finished a very long episode of the Tour of Spain. Very interesting, The landscape in the northeast corner is very mountainous and it’s amazing how many little villages are squeezed in between steep mountains. I can’t imagine how they built the roads. We find it very interesting, especially when we are crossing our fingers for the young rider from Australia who was leading the pack for most of the way. 👏👏

    night all

Replacement car batteries never last as long as the originals according to my motor trade contacts. My little Yaris lasted 15 years on the original battery and I have been warned not to expect more than 5 years out of the replacement. The same seems to be true for exhausts.
Having a mucky afternoon reviving an old cast iron Dutch oven which has been in the garage for 25 years. OH is looking for a better fit for her sourdough loaves and the Le Creusets we have are all a little too big.
  • Apparently the battery the AA chap fitted today is guaranteed for 5 years. I’ve printed all the paperwork off and put it in the folder. 😊

Love that Japanese Garden @Allotment Boy - hope you get the sponsorship.
I frequently get a flat battery @Dovefromabove. SIL comes and gets the battery and charges it up then admonishes me for not driving more.  Seems I have to alter my lifestyle to fit around the car.  Wrong way round surely?  Its the electrics - they slowly drain the battery unless it's recharged with a good long drive.  Had a few of those the past few days so fingers crossed for next time I need the car.  Nipping round to the GC round the corner is a no no so have to drive a few miles first if I need to top up my compost.
Do you want rain @Pat E?  I'm guessing you do.  Just in from a marathon watering session in the garden as, though overcast, it has been really dry here for ages.  Kind of caught me by surprise - some things decidedly droopy (in the garden I mean, not around my person, but that too!).
Congratulations @chicky!  Gold stars too!  Impressive!  (That's enough exclams. now Ms Didy).

  • The problem with batteries as they age @didyw 😊 is that even though you charge them
up by driving them (we were in Lincs a fortnight ago) there comes a time when they will not ‘hold a charge’ ie store the electricity. That’s when there’s no option but to get a new battery. That’s what happened today. Nothing to do with the car not being driven enough …  I wonder if that’s the problem with yours?  Does the service history indicate if it’s had a change of battery in the last 5 years or so?

Yes congrats @chicky, it will spur you on for the next round.
I must stress the Garden is at Capel Manor,  it has some sponsorship,  but they are hoping to get another one on board.  I am only a volunteer there, it's not me getting sponsored.  I like to think I have helped improve it. If anyone is interested to know more, go to  www.capel.ac.uk under college life follow the links to news, there is a feature with Dave Tweddle, who is the gardener I work with.  If you go on the U tube link on one of the pictures, he explains what we are trying to achieve,  if you don't blink there is even a little bit of me, clipping some of the box. In fact he's left me to do all the topiary this year. This was filmed a couple of weeks before the visit,  so the gravel garden is not looking as good as it does now.

Edit to add I think this might be a direct link https://youtu.be/JBTfv4O3Ii4
