Aaah bless you Biglad. That made a lovely read and my eyes were filled too.
I decided that I would go over the road to Jack's and have a cup of tea before I walked to his daughter's to feed Pepsi and Candy. I ticked him off for not having his panic button on and then I tested to see if I could persuade him to walk the 100m or so to his daughter's. He is supposed to exercise gently each day. I was expecting another flat out 'No' as I got the first day I asked him but he agreed. I locked up and we set out then aaaargh and OMG! there was a
on a drive three bungalows up and one of Jack's old cronies (= friends, Ante) was already skip dipping. I then had to stand around like one o'clock half struck whilst Jack joined him and started rooting around in the skip himself. The bungalow, which has been sold, belonged to a lady called Olwen who passed away fairly recently and the house is being cleared. Jack eventually retrieved an oriental decorated egg on a brass coloured stand. Wait until I tell his daughter! Eventually he got bored and we toddled off. I fed the cats, put out the bins, rounded up Jack and we set off to walk back to his bungalow. He had to stop by the skip and have another root - just in case he had missed a bit of treasure. I parked him on the now sunny bench outside his front door whilst I put his bins out, then I made a bid for freedom across the now busy lane. I'm willing to bet a pound to a penny he goes back for another sneaky root. I will ring in a moment to see if he has stayed at home.

I have a big soppy son, but he's 40 mins away and a full time dentist with 5 children and his own big garden. Other son is 5 hours away. It was lovely to see him at the baptism.
I've just been for a wander around a large village about 15 minutes away. Last time I went when son visited most of it was shut because of Covid. Now that it's open it's full of cafés, touristy shops and expensive antique shops, but there is a good GC - more of a plant nursery. I bought large 3 pots of ceratostigma Plumbaginoides. Each pot has about 3 plants in it, gorgeous blue. I'm going to split them and plant them in my new shrub bed for ground cover and I'll plant daffodils for spring colour.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I must confess to pilfering two dozen perfect driveway paving bricks/stones from a skip the other day. I'll definitely make good use of them, I promise!
T'Bird, I am very impressed with the F&C score. Near perfection! Actually, my mouth was watering as I read your description. That name has gone down on my list of places to visit.
Yvie - good luck with getting a proper dinosaur green for Gabriel's cake. This is a picture of a cake my sister made for me when I reached 27! (and the rest!) Had to restrict herself to one candle to avoid setting off the sprinklers and fire alarms as we celebrated during the February family holiday.

Busy, your plants sound beautiful. Its great when you find you have several plants in one pot - that always signifies a bargain to me. Their flowers are such a wonderful, piercing blue colour too.

LB is that a mini you doing the gardening. What a lovely thing to do. Yvie I hope all goes well preparing the cake. I visited my mum and dad this morning. It was lovely to see them and catch up. I spoke to my gas and electric company today, combined, and now have a two year fixed plan. Does anyone have a smart meter and, if so, how are you finding it?
Hi RosieBB. Yes, that is supposed to be me gardening and if you can make the image bigger you will be able to see a little ladybird at the back of the cake. My handy brother has a smart meter but he doesn't even bother with the in-home display. My Bestie has a smart meter too but she doesn't bother either. They only thing they are happy about is that they don't have to read their meters any more.
Bestie said it was a pain in the neck when they fitted it as the electricity was cut off for ages and she had no wi fi or t'internet. It didn't bother handy brother so much as he is a dinosaur and doesn't have any IT devices at all.
