@debs64, if you look in I've put some ideas on the CC thread for wedding dress sleeves.

@Ladybird4 do you know about the theory that you get the cheapest quotes around 3 weeks before the renewal date?

@Biglad, I am aware of that. Insurance needed from 22nd of next month so I'm teetering on the threshold. I haven't had my renewal quote from my current insurer yet and I shop round every single year to get the best offer. I don't think I've stayed with the same insurer ever for more than one year in all the years I've been driving. I have revisited some insurers at other times depending on what I have to pay.

Exactly the same here @Ladybird4. Legal (barely) thieves those insurance companies! Auto-renewal is a particular bugbear of mine. Forget to cancel something that you never wanted or agreed to and you end up with two policies with two companies covering the same period :o

Eldest felt she had to go with a company that used one of those black box things to get her premium down (new, young driver). Loads of blurb about the fancy bit of kit that specialist installers need to install on your engine. Pain of death if you so much as look at it, etc. etc. Never mind the punishments for driving too fast, too slow, too far, too late at night, too much in urban areas, braking too much, accelerating too fast, blah, blah. Lockdown arrives - "Oh you'll have to fit it yourself" :D

She hated it but got through the year without any problems (she's a far more careful driver than anyone I know) and asked them to come and uninstall it as she was going to get insured elsewhere. Despite being out of lockdown by then, they didn't want to send one of their 'specialists' to do that either. Anyway, it's so easy it turns out that I'm a specialist as well ;)

Good one @Biglad. You are now officially a member of the 'Handy Team' along with my brother and Ruby's OH who is a whizz at joinery. I share your belief that insurers are little better than thieves and I don't even want to tot up how much I have spent over my driving career and I've never had an accident. I bet I could be the owner of a Rolls Royce!

  • A very Happy Birthday 23 🐣🦋.  LB you not being able to stay with an insurer just shows the rates as not being competitive for existing customers.  I do hope you get a reasonable quote very soon.  Hazel it’s a bit of a shock finishing washing your hair in cold water and then towel drying.  I’m glad you had fish and chips, you’ll both have been glad of those.  I hope you sleep well everyone..
