Just spotted you there Ruby. So you really do have cool cats?

  • LB I do hope your shoulder improves.  It can be rather painful.  Try not to over do it this week.  I hope you have some ibuprofen if you can take it.  Not good for asthma sufferers.  Yvie what a lovely picture of your grandsons keeping cool.  We have summer days yay.  I’m watching the Antiques Roadshow.  It’s been on donkeys years now but it’s a staple.

    Evening all,

Watched a lot of the golf but the main job of the day was completed despite a couple of Dad Taxi call-outs. Anyway, I know you've all been on tenterhooks ;) so here's my trellis handy work.

Any suggestions for what climber(s) I might plant below it? I'm after something relatively compact (not sprawling round the whole estate) that will like a moist, well-drained (once I've ensured that!) corner of my garden that gets a few hours of sun each morning.

Good job there Big Lad🙂. I'm really into clematis at the moment so I'd suggest one for that spot. Some can be quite rampant but there are other lower growing ones out there. Perhaps a deep purply pink or a pale blue?

Another busy visiting day for you BL but I wouldn't have enjoyed walking round in this heat.

    Lovely pic Yvie😎

Rubee - I used to give my cat a wipe over with a damp flannel when it was hot. He seemed to really enjoy it - especially round his head and face. Didn't soak him - just made his fur a bit damp.

Rosie - hope Alfie copes with the heat ok.

LB - hope your shoulder / arm feels better tomorrow. Can be very restricting when you're down to one arm / hand.

Right - I'm off to bed now. The bedroom is a very pleasant temp at the moment. Let's hope nobody tries to abduct me, nobody tries to force their way into the house and no  toilets overflow at 3am tonight. I NEED a full night's sleep please!

Sorry to hear about your awful dreams @Topbird hope you sleep better tonight.
Aww @Yviestevie what a lovely photo of your gorgeous grandsons.
@Ladybird4 hope your shoulder improves soon. Leave the gardening for a few days, take care. No, not seen that one LB 😁
@debs64 hope you had a lovely day with your family, great weather for a BBQ. It's been schorchio here all day.
@Busy-Lizzie glad you had another lovely day visiting gardens, would have been too hot here to go anywhere 😤
    @bluebellsinthewild hope you had a love@Rubee
@Songbird-1 glad your headache is better, hope it's cooler for you now.
@rubee bet your puss cat enjoyed a cool sponge.
@Biglad I think a clematis would look lovely growing on your trellis. Or a short climbing rose......Strawberry Hill is very pretty. It's pink and would look lovely against the green trellis.
@Chivetalking hope you're ok and have enjoyed your weekend. Hope to see you soon.

Still quite warm tonight, although  cooler than last night. Hope everyone has a good night's sleep.

Rubee a good idea sponging the cats down to cool them.  Topbird I very much hope you’ve had a better night.  Alfie seems to be coping with the heat but is sleeping in the barrel rather than coming to bed.  Biglad I agree with the girls, clematis would look lovely there.  Well done with the trellis.  LB the Mark Twain quote seems apt presently.  I hope your shoulder will improve this week. Lily a warm night.  I awoke before 6am and Alfie was asking for his food.  @Chivetalking sending my best wishes and hope you’ll soon be back.  Hazel I’m glad your headaches better.

Good morning all. Pleased to say that shoulder is much better - about 95% back to normal but I will not be risking too much heavy stuff today. No sign of the road resurfacing yet so apart from my resident wren, who is making more noise than anything else including the TV, it is peaceful in the lane.
RosieBB - I can't take ibuprofen so I just stick with the paracetamol and I take those as little as possible.
Biglad you have done a cracking job on your shed and I'd agree with T'Bird and SGL, a smaller clematis would look fantastic there.
T'Bird, I hope that you had an undisturbed sleep last night. There have been times when I have felt quite raggy round the edges due to a poor night's sleep
I will have to try that damp cloth treatment for Lily. Its something I have never done before. Note to self - guard your jugular!

    Morning all,

Thanks for the climber suggestions. I was thinking clematis as an option so will have to investigate specific varieties.

Hope you don't get called up for the T20 decider at Old Trafford tomorrow @Ladybird4. Sounds like your shoulder isn't quite up to a spell of fast bowling just yet ;)

Have a good day and stay cool folks.
