Hello Chive, good to see you. Time for you to get some 'me time' and enjoy your summer break. I've been getting little terracotta pots ready for inhabiting by some young sempervivums. Another hot job. Having a breather before the next move. Think this calls for a cup of tea.
Whilst I was working on the drive, I watched a man with a trundle wheel walking up and down taking measurements. He then asked me if I was going out today or tomorrow as I would need to get my car out and park it some distance away from the house. I told him 'no'. It did mean that I would have to miss going to my Bestie's tomorrow so I did ring her to explain. A giant trailer (relating to the road works) has been parked outside my garden. It stretches from the edge of my drive, across the full width of my front garden and halfway across my neighbour's front garden. Its like a 25m swimming pool (poetic license with my 'slight' exaggeration there!) Heaven only knows if the bin wagons (and the milkman) will actually be able to get into the crescent tomorrow.

My 'proper' name is Susan. How boring is that? There were always at least 3 Susans in every class at school and it was the same when I started work. So, we were always Susan Smith or Susan Jones when everyone else was just (much friendlier) plain Janice or Jenny (or Hazel - Hazel๐).ย
For those reasons I've never particularly liked my name. When I was about 6 I decided I was going to be Elizabeth and announced it to the class. I refused to respond when Mrs N called my proper name. Fortunately she was a good sort and played along - most of them would have given me a cuff round the ear for cheekiness (early 1960's when teachers got away with hitting children's heads - hard๐ฌ).
Chive - lovely to see you. Hope you have a super hols - you've earned it.๐

I'm Elizabeth, known as Liz. Susan was my favourite name when I was a child @Topbird. When we stayed with Granny in Southwold in the summer holidays I used to win goldfish at the fair. They were called Susan, Suzanne, Susette, Susie, Sue but I can't remember the 6th one.
We watched Escape to the Country, think it was a repeat but it was set in Norfolk last September. They showed a house we looked at a few years ago when OH was looking for this cottage. They rejected it for the same reason we did, one of the bedrooms was really the landing.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I think Hazel is a great name too. I think everyone here knows that I am an Elizabeth. Annoyingly, because of my birthday, I was registered as Mary Elizabeth. I have NEVER EVER been called Mary apart from on official documents which I am at pains to point out to whichever institution necessary that I wish to be known as Elizabeth. Sorry to any Marys out there but I detest that name. I blame my parents! The children at school used to try and guess staff names and as I do sign my name M.E. I used to tell them I was called Montmorency Ermyntrude. Quite a lot of them believed me too.
T'Bird, to this day I won't respond to Mary. Wouldn't you just know that my service provider VM use my first name on their various emails!

BL - Maybe the 6th one was Soo-oo-oo (as in the Sooty & Sweep show)๐
I love watching ETTC when they visit villages I know - they've done a couple round here. Interesting to see an actual property that you've been to. Don't think I'd fancy a landing doubling up as a bedroom either. Study or sitting / reading area - yes. Bedroom - no.

Ooh you weren't there when I posted Busy but, like you, I am a Liz except my nieces and nephews all call me Lizzy. I told them I would kill them if they called me Aunt and to me they are all my Niblings. Even My Bestie's granddaughter calls me Liz.
