Morning all.  Have a good time with your MIL @Dovefromabove.  How frustrating for you with your staff @D0rdogne_Damsel@Allotment Boy - that sounds worrying.  Hope it clears up.  My SIL offered to do some pruning for us a few years ago - we have a cherry plum hedge.  What he didn't realise is that there are large thorns in there and as he is always a big gung ho managed to get a thorn stuck in the fleshy bit by his thumb.  He had a bad reaction and ended up having to go to A&E.
That said - OH will be continuing to cut back the hedge today.  And to mow the grass (I hope, before he reaches the end of his energy!).  I'll be mostly weeding, trimming the edges of the lawns and potting on some seedlings that have outgrown their pots but are still too small to go in the garden.  That's the problem with growing perennials from seed - some of them need more looking after than others.

Morning all, unexpectedly hot and sunny here. More (minor) excitement, found a slowworm on the path in the orchard we walk through every morning. Not seen one of those for years. Asked the dog walkers to keep a look out and not let the dogs near it.
Earlier, I'd watched a baby squirrel sit on my terrace wall and actually eat a late wisteria sprig - the cheek of it, right in front of me.

Taking OH to the GP's for a routine blood test later, it's too far for him to walk with a gammy knee/hip and their carpark only holds 4 cars, so if it's full, you're stuck.

Just watered and fed the tomatoes, bit late in the day but what the heck. Must check on the strawberries when we get back, there were two nearly ripe.

Staffing must be a bit of a nightmare DD. Have a good trip Dove and Punkdoc.

    Morning all,

I don't envy you @D0rdogne_Damsel. Unfortunately, I'm quite an intolerant old grump. Constant staff problems would drive me mad :( Knowing this, I've refused to accept work promotions for years. That way the only work colleague that I've ever ended up supervising/training has been my eldest. She's a bit of a mini me so meets my expectations ;)

Another fine day but the forecast has changed to suggest we'll get some rain tomorrow and Friday. We shall see!

I'm going to chuck a mix of seeds on another border in the front garden. I know the Shauns will decimate on their next trip up/down the road, but I've got loads of seed and it would be nice to get a bit of colour in the 'TS Eliot Garden' even if it is only briefly.

I've been gardening, weeding and tying up, deadheading and thinning the 2 roses in front of the summerhouse, one of which is For Your Eyes Only, which had fallen over onto the lawn after the rain. Now my back aches. I have arthritis in the lumbar spine, according to an X Ray, but it doesn't usually hurt much.

A physiotherapist rang to tell us about after care after OH's op. He will have to sleep on his back, may be difficult, he always sleeps on his side.

    Evening all,
Lovely day here but I've been pampering myself ready for the holiday rather than gardening.  Had the locks cut, manicure, pedicure, eye lash tint and eyebrow wax/tint.  Getting the washing done now ready for packing on Friday.
Sorry to hear about Chicklet, hope she stays well.
DD you seem to be having a lousy time with staff at the moment, hope the situation improves.
Hubby is allowed to drive now so he's been out on a few short trips.
We've been lucky, we have had rain recently but not heavy enough to do any damage.

@Busy-Lizzie   Bonsoir!!  I had a hip operation in 2017 very successfully - I was a good girl!!  Yes, you have to sleep on your back and with a leg separator between your legs for about a month.    If you can get a leg separator which keeps your hips "square" - he may be able to have respite for a little while on his side.  It is hard but only for a little while.  Physiotherapy is walking - nothing else - and the physiothist gets you up in the afternoon, if you have had the op in the morning!!  - just to show you how to get out of bed correctly and just a few steps at a time.  The more you walk and keep the hip lubricated, the more successful the operation.  The pain in the thigh doesn't subside until the flesh/muscle has grown around the prothesis. (at least 6 months)   BUT - it's a new lease of life and back pain subsides.  The first time I put the weight on my foot - there was no pain - amazing!  it is a dream after years of pain.

On an important note - the physiotherapist told me to remember when walking - heel, toe, heel toe.  So as not to "limp" back into the pain.

Bonne nuit  - watering time for me.
