I haven't seen a songthrush do that for a few years @punkdoc - but it was a thrill when I did. The blackbirds seem to have calmed down - I think all their babies have fledged now. Or maybe everyone is just hunkering down because of all this rain we are having. Very heavy in the night. You were waking up as I was going to sleep @Dovefromabove. It happens sometimes - I start falling asleep, go to turn off the light and ping awake. But horrid grey day has meant I could catch up with some admin. I'm making a spreadsheet of the entries for the Garden Competition we are running. Not nearly enough entries yet so I've extended the closing date. I think people are confused because there's a Gardens Open Day next weekend - 25 gardens open for people to wander in and have a look round. My garden is one of them - but there is a lot to do before next Sunday. Wednesday onwards if the forecast is anything to go by.
Oh bother, @didyw, I would have come to see your garden but I'll be in quarantine until the Tuesday after.
I went for my Day 2 Covid test today, over an hour's drive, north of Norwich. I chose that as they charged £82 for 2 tests, half what a lot of others charged. I've another test on Day 8. I've had 2 vaccinations and a Covid test last Wednesday. Yet they let in all those people from India. Covid daily cases were very low in my part of France.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Crikey @Busy-Lizzie - that's expensive! And particularly galling as, as you say, the border to India was not closed when it should have been (not sure it's closed even now!) And now we have football fans flocking over... We should get together with @Dovefromabove for a coffee in Norwich while you are still over here!
I’m just glad we pushed our holiday in Cornwall planned for early June  forward to the end of September. Phew! Not only have we not had to hobnob with the great and the not especially good, but we’ve not been infected by them and their entourage either. Win win 😉Â
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
First day of the week not in garden all day. Visited Dad and took some casserole (pork, apple, cider and parsnip) plus a Begonia for Father’s Day.Â
Hedgehog update…spotted on lawn heading back to base (under the shed) at 5am this morning. She must have had a feast last night with all those slugs out in the rain.Â
Casserole sounds good @AuntyRach and also good news the hedgehog's staying put. OH is back home safe and sound so the GP will soon be on. I might disappear upstairs whilst the dinner is cooking........
