@Nollie ah thats interesting about its parentage! I shall have to have a good sniff as usual once mine flowers and let you know what I think it smells like! Its budding but I think Rhapsody in blue might just pip it to the first flowers of the year.
OH and I have been sniffing Eyes for You, her first reaction was ‘ooh that’s a weird smell!’ We finally decided it was like sweet, overripe tropical fruit, like a mango or papaya left out in the sun too long!

..that's almost as dark as they get... fabulous colour.. imagine the excitement at Austins when they first saw it..
@newbie77 .. I thought you might like to see a wider angle of my road frontage.. well, I nipped out to take a picture or two.. ..this from the bottom end.. it has more of a late April look than mid May to be honest.. ..top end... fortunately it's one way so not a busy lane.. 'Kew Gardens' looking lush and leafy.. ..weird bud cluster on this... 'Dr. O'Donel Browne'... ..might see my first bloom tomorrow..
Your road side border looks wonderful already @Marlorena. I’d love to see that border again at the height of flowering time. That’s given me food for thought as I have a road frontage like that. The birds love to have a dust bath on the edges so I have to sweep it everyday. I probably need more plants on the edge to cover the soil. Kerching time!
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
Not long now @Marlorena. A few of your new roses I have to look up, you have some uncommon ones, lots to look forward to.
I think you just need a LOT of patience with MW, 4 years I would say. It is undoubtedly better as a trio, helps to hide it’s awkward habit. Shame they never managed to improve that, given the wonderful colour. I don’t think there is another repeat bloomer out there quite like it.
Lady Emma Hamilton is very slow to start this year and paler blooms than usual:
