    I've love to see pics of Dr Jamain. Mine is quite weedy and probably a mistake.

    Will do @Fire once it gets going. What aspect is yours in? I know it’s a fussy so&so but I couldn’t resist trying for those gorgeous blooms. I had to dig out  several bucket loads of rocks and refill with new soil, backbreaking, it better be thankful 😜 Mine is east facing so hopefully won’t get burned but will have some decent light.

    Mine is at the south end of a north facing garden, so, pretty shady. It gets early East light from equinox to equinox. I went for it a few years ago because the colour and its history and because it's shade tolerant. But, in fact, I  choose it try and cover a new fence, which is daft. A montana had bought the old fence down. I'm too impatient to wait five years+ for it to hit its stride. I'm not convinced I want to stay in this house that long. A mad Malvern would have been a better choice, but I didn't know that then.

    This is 'Chianti' @Marlorena, absolutely shooting up with five buds forming already, but is it going to need support as I imagine the blooms are going to be rather heavy for such a young plant and may droop otherwise, which would be a shame.

    Anyone bought any of the Pheno Geno roses, newly offered by Trevor White?

    .no.. not me... I looked during the winter but nothing caught my eye really..

    @Bright star
    ..great selection of plants today... I love your Alchemillas, I don't have any of those here.. and I'm amazed your Astrantia is flowering already.. way ahead of mine..

    @owd potter
    ... as the nights are milder now, I would feed it, yes..

    @peteS
    ..there isn't much you can do about floppiness until the rose is established.. a common trait with Austins...it's self supporting when older.. so I wouldn't worry about it too much for now..  see how it goes when it blooms..

    @Desi_in_London
    ..sorry you've also had some damage to roses... looking forward to pics when you  have the time... you've lots to manage right now..

    @Tack
    ..doing well isn't it?...  my favourite rambler you have there..

    ..just looking at Pete's 'Chianti'.. such a beautiful well foliated rose, when you think it was bred in the 1960's.. yet the foliage is very Austin like even today, and you can often tell an Austin just by looking at the foliage, or at least take a good guess it's one of theirs..  it seems to be a theme that runs through so many of their varieties..
    ..originally called 'Kashmiri'.. it went through a name change when DA developed his 'English Rose' designation..

    I just knew you'd want to know that...

    I've just bought 'Pear'...I hadn't actually noticed them before your post, but having read the spiel which accompanies them I am intrigued to see if they live up to their claims.
    Plus, every rose I've bought from Trevor White so far has been great, so I've every confidence.

    @peteS I noticed them before but was confused by their name, thinking they do some manipulations or something like that. But I looked into them more and they actually do the good type of science - researching DNA markers for disease resistance and other desirable (or undesirable) traits and other research projects designed to make the breeding process quicker and to fight the problems that the rose genus has. I think this approach could be the future of rose breeding.
    Anyway, I am in a bad mood and seriously thinking about rose therapy.
