@Victoria Sponge - love the bridge. I’m putting a pond in the middle of the garden as soon as I’m allowed to rip out the lawn - probably when the boys are older.
Thanks @Mr. Vine Eye! The bridge is 9' long and is the only way of getting to the far end of the garden, an idea that amused me at the time.
I've lost the pond this year, even though water levels remained high the plants have taken over obscuring most of the surface and other stuff has rooted into the hornwort. Normally I can sit on side of the bridge and look at the things in it, mostly frogs and snails. It needs a good weeding before winter.
@Victoria Sponge love that spot with the bench there! Is that allium schephaleron on left? Ive been looking at ordering those.
Ive just embraced the curious combos, my reds and yellows beds are adjacent so lady of shalott has bright pink birthday boy nearby... eh, figure i'll just chuck some whites in and embrace the colour riot
Ive got dwarf forms of that knautia to replace melton pastels next year as its too tall (ive rehomed it with friends as its a great plant;)), and thats my red climber highgrove at the back to cover that fence gap once I wire/ trellis. Im moving that clematis thats a bit too bluey elsewhere and adding madame julia instead.
Hey @JessicaS, yes, Allium sphaerocephalon (or similar spelling, predictive text just came up with that one!) I love them although they seed around a lot and more annoyingly flop over as shown above. Bees love them too.
Agreed, I'm at an embrace the colour clash phase, there's always something nearby I haven't thought of when I plant something and it's not always as offensive as I imagine😉 Be good to see your Highgrove covering the fence there. Mine is still growing as a rotund little bush without any support so will see what happens!
It’s great to see such an incredible diversity of roses and equally lovely to see such lush planting in gardens, makes me feel cooler just looking at all your photos. Here the traditional August heat has well and truly hit, 37.4c yesterday, might top that today 🥵
A few roses gamely going for it but mostly tiny blooms. Mme. Antoine Mari opened some normal sized blooms this morning though:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
..very dry here, no rain... the best roses in my garden right now, for quantity of flower are... Tottering by Gently... Mme Antoine Mari... Kew Gardens.. Scented Garden... Lady of Shalott... Marie Nabonnand... Mutabilis...'Cornelia'... all with decent August flushes of bloom..
...here are some others... 'Pink Martini'... 'Gruss an Aachen'... 'Erfurt'... 'Scented Garden'.. Aster 'Monch'... Helenium 'Rubinzwerg'... 'Bathsheba'.. 'Chawton Cottage'... 'Aimee Vibert'... does not appear to age well.. 'Eustacia Vye'..
Some unexpected rain damage, didn't think it rained that hard. Yellow Our Dreams, but that was all on one stem which bent, and red Trumpeter which makes a great long lasting cut flower, sometimes have to cut the buds off too though to get a long enough stem. Orange is Leah Tutu which I cut just in case as the last two flowers didn't like the rain. I thought the previous flowers were more gold but could be mis-remembering...I like it anyway.
I would send you some rain (Marlorena or anyone in dry areas) if I could. We had a lot in August, although in recent days, it was mostly drizzling. For some reason, my cat decided that drizzling doesn't count as rain and enjoys being outside and then comes completely wet, thinking that my lap is the perfect place to get dry. I still have many plants flowering but everything is either scraggly or floppy or yellowing or browning or at least in need of deadheading. I really need to up my late summer into the autumn game.
@edhelka I’m just at the garden centre 😬 with a chippendale in my trolley. Think it’ll grow alright in a pot? 45 x 40? Looks to have balled a bit maybe rain maybe not been watered carefully?
