Back from a fun few days away. All good apart from getting stuck for 2 hours on the M6 and a half hour journey taking over three, late in the evening with two tired under 5s 😅
My new circular bed around the old olive tree is coming along nicely. Perennials are taking centre stage just now, as most roses are gearing up for the next flush. Ebb Tide, Love Song, Palais Biron and Mme. Antoine Mari are just peeking out, with Astronomia and Excellenz von Schubert lurking out of sight round the back.

Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I have a rose, ferdinand pichard, that I planted last winter but has yet to really flower this year. I've had one flower only, lots of new healthy looking growth just zero buds, could there be something i'm doing wrong? It's south facing, in clay with organic matter mixed in.
Hi @zugenie, I also have a Ferdinand Pichard, 2 years old. It was like yours last year, giving me a few blooms I could count with one hand. So I posted the exactly same question! One of the forum members here has it and I was persuaded to give it a few more years. It flowered better this year so I am looking forward to its performance next summer. I find it prone to black spots though.
Some more today. Double delight, William Shakespeare 2000, pat Austin, Benjamin Britten, Desdemona, Sceptred Isle, Charles Darwin, Bengali, rapsody in blue.
My apple tree is loaded with fruits, and finally my petunia red valour is flowering!
Ooh that double delights lovely. Ive been in the garden all day planting a few roses waiting in pots and some perennials id been growing on. Lady of shallotts looking gorgeous now. Ill be mailing harkness though, think ive been sent the wrong rose! This is supposed to be 95th celebration, but looks nothing like the frilly pink of the picture - suspect its rosemary harkness? Very pretty but not the right one surely?... Supposed to look like this;
Update on my sunflower ladybirds - they’ve all hatched! Hopefully they’ll populate the rest of the garden too! Must make sure I leave plenty of places for them to overwinter.
You wouldn't think I had any roses at the moment so just garden pics and Rose Plans from me.
I've extended the bed into the lawn where I'm going to move Alfred Colomb and add another, currently thinking Grace. The edge looked straight when I cut it🤔
The pondside plants have enjoyed the rain/heat combo of this summer. I'm adding three roses to the pondside this winter including an arch on the far side of the bridge (losing the Shastas).
It looks as though the second flush in the triangle bed will coincide with the pink and purple asters this year (currently all greens below). That should throw up some curious combinations with the orange and yellow roses😁
