@Nollie ..strange how things grow differently... Mme A C was a monster in the first year for me, but I didn't get a single bloom on it either..
..I'm trying to imagine your new space... I've had all those roses.. Lady Oakley F has nice spring foliage, and the blooms were orange for me, but didn't last long, being single.. a short compact plant, might be bigger for you.. Lady Hillingdon needs a fence or wall, is quite thorny and not the easiest to train across, the branches are quite stiff but this rose can be kept to about 10 feet or so width here.. .. but with those on the fence, you could grow L of S as a shrub or another climber.. but all would dwarf Lady Oakley..
Lady Hillingdon to about 10 feet width.. when the roses merge and you have to get in there for pruning - she bites !.. otherwise I don't see a problem..
'Narrow Water' - good growth, but only now has tiny buds on the ends of the branches. 'Kiss me Kate' - healthy growth but still small, has buds. My mother bought her too this year (coincidence) and her plant flowered last week, so it isn't my care or garden. 'Mrs. Herbert Stevens' - did absolutely nothing.
I am so chuffed by your comments about my seedlings, thank you. Here is Carminia today, the parent plant, a bare root in Nov, the latest buds look like they are staying more upright than my first blooms, health is good. Coincidentally I bought a long armed pruner last week. It is brilliant for cutting and gripping climbers and shrubs 2ft beyond my reach.
@Marlorena yes it’s funny, I expected Mme AC to really take off, but maybe the north fence location or weird weather this year has slowed growth.
Many thanks for your advice and feedback on my two tentative selections, I don’t mind Mrs Oakley Fisher blooms not lasting long if it’s part of an overall rose medley, but definitely something to consider. Your Lady Hillingdon looks fabulous, but am I correct in assuming that’s the climbing sport though? I was looking at the shrub version, which HMF says is 2-3ft high, maybe taller here.
The 18ft long x 4ft deep raised border backed by a fence is at a funny angle to the house so difficult to get the whole lot in a photo without the perspective looking odd, so in my head the plan looks roughly like this, with Lady of Shallot in the middle:
I need to work on the colour combinations, another creamy white might work better at the opposite end to MAC. I’ve got yellows on the brain for some reason!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie ...ah sorry, I tend to think only of the climber here, as I'm not sure we can get the shrub now.. I haven't checked..
..yes plenty of room I'd have thought in that case, for your roses.. I think it'll look ok if Mrs Oakley grows at a good rate for you, otherwise it could look a bit lopsided if she stays too small.. I might have put her in the middle..
