    @celcius_kkw …….never thought of that!😂 Duh!
    Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.

    Meant to be soggy all weekend. Boo!

    Fortunately, I had a day-in-lieu to take which I used yesterday and the weather was gorgeous.

    Hopefully I’ll be able to get a bit of time in the garden, I feel like I’m not far off flowers now. Need to keep checking!

    @poppyfield64 - RinB is usually one of my first to flower too. Covered in buds but not sure if it’ll be first. It’s a great rose, a real wafter, can smell it wherever you are in the garden.

    Glad you like the video. I wish my DSLR camera did video, but it’s quite an old one, that would be great set up with a tripod and a telephoto by the pond. I have to just lean over very close with my phone. I did slightly dip it in yesterday but fortunately it only wet the phone cover!!

    ...your roses are utterly gorgeous and so healthy looking...  even without blooms..

    .. do let me know what you think of Tottering... I love it for its simplicity, its grace and vigour..

    Totally agree @Mr. Vine Eye I love the fragrance of RinB which is why I have it right next to the arbour.

    My DSLR is really old too so no video also.  Although the phone is good and handy to quickly take pictures I find the DSLR is more true to colour.  Anything mauve coloured comes up bright fuchsia pink on my phone.  Glad you only did a dip and not a dunk!!

    Hiya folks,
    I bought a clematis viticella, Etoile Violette, with the intention to grow this together with my Generous Gardener climber, (although I am now in 2 minds whether it isn't a better colour combo with Ghislaine de feligonde). Anyhow, as this is a Gp 3 Clem and therefore subject to pruning right back to base each year to regrow, I am wondering whether I should plant this large vigorous clematis beside my climbing rose (in it's own space) to share the pergola, or do I plant in front of the rose (sort of in the same space) to allow it to scramble up and through the rose when fully mature?
    Would appreciate some opinions on this from any who grow Clems together with climbing roses.
    cheers

    Just another day at the plant...

    @AlliumPurpleSensation Isn’t it such a tease when the buds start to show colour but still take their sweet time in unraveling the petals? Your roses are looking really healthy.

    @owd potter - I’m no expert on this, but what I’ve done with my clems is plant them 2-3 feet away from the roses (apart from Justa which is a bit closer due to being a shorter one) so that I could train them up and away from the roses, stopping them from swamping them, while the roses are still young and establishing. But they will grow vigorously enough to mingle with the roses when they’re ready.

    They're planted against the same walls/fences rather than in front of the roses.
