I didn’t even realise my rose has bloomed. I thought it was a munstead wood originally but I was told not. Anyone care to suggest what it might be? It’s fragrant but I forgot to note what it smells of.
Beautiful sunny day already here and exciting openings waiting for me. Love seeing everyones opening! Lovely combos with underplanting too, picked up so many ideas to try. Ive just ordered geum pink petticoats to float about with my peachy roses, geum tequila sunrise is looking great floating about the yellows. Im careful not to swamp 'feet'! My middle rosebed - lavender ice still to open and Syrie and Brother Cadfael only have one each so far so expecting a huge flush on left. What would you feed them growing like this? Assume liquid - Tomatoe feed? My left bed really opening now Brother Cadfael more fully open. Beautiful classic english rose scent. Macmillain nurse, bareroot this year first bloom. For the princely sum of £3 in a pot luck mix im pleased! Purple tiger, styles roses exclusive, brought this time last year. Crown princess margaritta opening more. Wow... First bloom opening on pheno-geno "Natalija" - I expect this to change colour more as it opens. I can see beautiful peachy shading on the inside of the petals, lovely fresh scent so far and its immaculate disease wise. Im already eying more if this is the quality! Fragrant delight, 3-4 years old. This goes a lot peachier as it opens, very pretty.
I have a rose bloom! Vanessa Bell is the first of my roses to start to unfurl. Hopefully she'll be fully open over the next week.
Young Lycidas is starting to bud as well...
The Nepeta and other perennials are looking beautiful. Boule de Beige and Jacques Cartier (can't quite see them in these photos, but they're there!) are also starting to bud as well. Hopefully I'll get some blooms soon.
...I think two of my Roald Dahl's are really shocked. They're dropping leaves like crazy and turning yellow. I'm giving them lots of water and I hope they start to recover soon.
My Maria Lisa rambler is throwing out long canes but on the wrong side of the plant. Can I cut them off in the hope that I will have some growth on the side of the wall and the plant uses his energy more wisely?
I would agree with Lizzie @Imprevu, the new canes should be flexible enough to bend and train toward the direction you want them to grow.
Summer (and the summer rains) has arrived with a vengeance here so newer blooms are already a little smaller. With the exception of Julia Child, who just powers through whatever the weather:
The most fragrant thing in the garden currently is Daphne Eternal Fragrance:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

I would be inclined to see if you could just arch them over to the side you want them to grow, using canes to start with and tying them to it.
