After strong winds like that last year my standard rose was almost laying down, hubby did a good job staking it and it has survived well, even the Celebration and Blue for You have shrugged off the winds. Now they all need some warmth to catch up on flowering.
Gosh @celcius_kkw that does look heartbreaking. You know they will recover but that is horrible to see. How are you getting on at the allotment? I think we're all keen to hear of your plans and see what you're doing.
Thank you both.. before the storm Etoile was in competition with Sunsprite for first bloom of the season but it’s lost the lead for sure now.. I might have to rethink if it’s suited for that windy spot on my balcony..
@Tack I’ve planted out some sweet peas, raspberry canes and my rainbow carrots have germinated so far.. majority of the planting will only take place towards the end of the month.. although my tomatoes are already 2 feet tall and looking very precarious in their 9cm pots.. I don’t want to chance it too much by planting out now.. the highlight will be the dahlias this year.. can’t wait!
All those are some of my favourite things. I let my Sister in Law give me tomato plants from her greenhouse when they are ready to pot out, good arrangement I think. I am old enough to remember dahlias being really popular but were then totally cast into the Wilderness of Naff for decades. Lovely to see them back. Mine are really late to appear this year but yesterday I noticed my first shoots on the giant potted Thomas Edison. Whether the garden ones have survived is still in the air.
Speaking of seedlings - top left are my rugosas now transferred from modules to pots.
Then clockwise - my larger Bishops Children dahlias moved into 11cm pots, they're doing very well. Their roots are huge, whereas some others done at exactly the same time are barely showing roots in their smaller pot so they've stayed put.
..shocking scenes from the 8th floor balcony... a right old vortex blew through there by the looks of things.. but you've still got plenty going on to keep you occupied, which is good.. I have a couple of roses decapitated, as per usual here..
... @purplerallim ...pretty garden, love the doggie statue too.
..the best plants seem to be indoors at the moment, apart from Nollie's pots..
Another exciting frost tonight, with luck it might be the last.. I've not seen a sparrow yet, and the slugs obviously know better...
