I’m not sure they are doing anything but collecting pollen @Tack, but curious to know what they are. As far as I can tell, they are not chewing through leaves or buds.

Help, I've just noticed rose sawfly caterpillars on one of my roses - apart from picking them off, is there anything else I should do? This is the end rose of a row of three.
Ah, that's a relief. I think after today we are due some summer warmth at last. Looking at your pictures shows me what we have been missing @Nollie, I long for warm rose-scented air.
@Lizzie27 I just pick them off but I have only had a few so am not overly concerned yet. But I do have words with the wren that moves along the pots.
I'm completely new to roses, I planted a bare root Rosa Primula earlier this year which is doing nicely and have just had the Rosa Rugosa Alba (potted) I ordered delivered. Overall it looks pretty healthy but there are some leaves which look a bit iffy and I don't know whether they're anything to be concerned about.
Has it’s drawbacks for the roses tho @Tack, plus the ground is incredibly dusty and dry. I woke up last night and leapt out of bed as I heard thunder and what I thought was heavy rain, turns out we had gusty winds so it was just the trees rustling madly.
@Lizzie27, not really I’m afraid, you just have to keep squishing. The sawflies are fairly slow and bumbling though, so if you can squish those when they land and before they lay eggs, that helps. At least you don’t have three different types, two of which keep reproducing throughout the summer here, my foliage is a holey mess. Scant consolation I know!

Thanks @Tack and @Nollie, I haven't yet seen any of the flies/beetles, just the caterpillars and that's the first time in this garden. I have also found gooseberry sawfly caterpillers which have stripped my gooseberry bushes while we've been away. Is it the creature or different ones targeting different plants?
https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=517 Reading this RHS info suggests they are different @Lizzie. I only know that the 3 adult sawflies I have seen on the roses had black heads and thoraxes with bright yellow abdomens not just all yellow with black heads like one of the gooseberry munchers.
@celcius_kkw All roses are technically edible, but similar to other edible flowers, I've always found the taste boring. I tried one petal from Mileva and don't see any obvious reason why I should eat it (other than using it as a decoration). What I like about their edible roses is that they breed them to be suitable for growing organically (so they can be safe for culinary use and still grow well).
@edhelka I’m thinking of adding rose petals to syrups or cocktails / bubbly to add a hint of Rose fragrance.. I don’t like rose water as it always smell and taste so artificial.. imagine having a lady Emma Hamilton flavoured bubbly on a warm summer’s day..
I figured out that it is something wrong with my phone that I can't upload photos. I clicked this from a very old handset and I can upload. Now the problem is this handset touchscreen doesn't work properly so very difficult to type. So now on some not so great resolution photos and small comments from me. Nevermind something is better than nothing. New phone on my Christmas wishlist. A little bloom of the poet's wife
