@dabolem Re Phyllis Bide... here's a photo I took in June, in a garden in my area..
You can keep it smaller than this but it's a striking colour... I probably wouldn't want to plant anything pink with that, if I was colour conscious.
Rose roots in the northern hemisphere prefer to grow towards the north, or north west direction.. the top growth will grow towards the sun, so a southerly/easterly direction.. that's where you will see most of the blooms..
Well I visited David Austin gardens but unfortunately forgot to bring my camera with me! Was very annoyed when I realised. I was also dragging around two very tired and whinging boys as we'd already visited Cosford RAF museum.
Was still interesting though. Nice to see so many of them in one place and check out ones I was aware of but hadn't seen in the flesh before. Jude smelled great but wasn't in the plant centre to buy.
Bathsheba is obviously highly rated there as she was growing in multiple places throughout the garden and was the first rose you see when coming into the plant centre too!
The big pots were very impressive.
Gabriel Oak, Boscobel, Scarborough Fair and another GO I think.
The Country Parson pot, I think you asked me for photos? - @celcius_kkw
Molineux I think
Big Roald Dahl, looked lovely
Bunch of Scarborough Fair
Munstead Wood looking much darker than mine. Was darker than this photo looks!
My rose of the year is probably Creme de la Creme (as posters are listing this year's favs) but I am most excited about the possibilities of new Malvern Hills. I will put in two more next year, possibly, as I am looking to cover new fences fast. I just hope it doesn't get too heavy and threaten to break them.

@Marlorena Can I ask what you do to you Phyllis other than training? Do you trim laterals back to certain buds? The flowering seems impressively compact. How old is the plant? One plant?
@Marlorena thank you! So I will plant Phyllis in te NE side of the arch. This rose has a wonderful colour “palette” and I’d like it to bloom like the one in your piloto!
i was thinking that colour wise I could put next to it some purple/blue rose, surely not a pink one. Or, maybe, some orange like Lady of Shallot or Lady Emma, or a yellow one?
@Mr. Vine Eye I envy you so much, I:would like to visit Austin’s gardens, such a beautiful bunch of roses they have, all in the same place.

I think Marlorena said it’s in a garden nearby to hers, so not actually her rose! Although I suppose she could be hiring herself out to maintain it! 😄 Actually I’ve been tempted to offer to do that when I’ve seen gardens in distress nearby. I’d do it for free, love pruning and tidying up!
It is very impressive looking isn’t it. Although I can’t say I’m that keen on mixed colour roses like that. They had it at the DA gardens, and also Maid of Kent which I’d considered for the front of the house. After seeing it I’m glad I didn’t as I don’t think I like the look of the flowers!
@d@dabolem - the fun bit was going around and seeing how many I could name without looking at the labels. I did pretty well I think!
There wasn’t much to see with their climbers unfortunately - they looked like they’d only just been trimmed back and hadn’t yet started to regrow. Also most of the species roses section was closed. Which was a shame as I was finding that really interesting, there were some roses I’d not seen before, interesting leaves and hips.
I made it out without buying anything. I would have been tempted if they’d had Jude there. I was hoping for a clearance/plant rescue section though...I didn’t think it likely but I am a Yorkshireman through and through, I’ll never pay full price if I can avoid it!
I’m still annoyed with myself that I missed out on buying more of those cheaper Corinne’s choice Dutch DA roses before the garden centre stopped stocking them. I could have got Boscobel and Graham Thomas for £14.99 each!

You did well in not buying.
