Thanks @Mr. Vine Eye, that makes sense. It's a large plant so planting it in it's own space adjacent the rose and then coaxing it across the support has to be the way to go. Cheers
@KayJ welcome! Your roses look very healthy, good selection and you have clearly planted them well, looks like you have excellent soil there too. Are you going to grow Night Owl as a shrub? I believe it can be grown that way, although strictly speaking it’s a climber, so may need some support in future.
Blue skies this morning 😊

@AlliumPurpleSensation ... lots of nice buds.. and your roses look so clean .. do you spray? we seem to be in suspended animation at the moment, once again, with the weather..
@Perki .. you have sheep? no gates?.. sorry about your tulips getting eaten, but you have good displays and I can see a lush lawn in the background.. sometimes I wish I had grass..
Thank you @Marolrena and @Nollie, I just follow the tips I pick up on here (went round making sure my underplanting wasn't too close to the roots the other day.... ). I hadn't really expected them to flower in their first year!
The bed they're in has been greatly improved over the years (our soil is clay and heavy) with lots of grit and organic matter so hopefully they will be happy there. I have a climber elsewhere (Golden Showers, below) that is looking promising too, though it's planted into a less-well-drained spot. It's an awkward narrow bit of fence with a ratty clematis viticella already in residence, hoping I can train the two together, maybe in the future I'll have to make use of the house wall as well! And yes, I need to trim the campanula back a bit! (Though its roots are a decent distance away).
@Nollie I bought Night Owl as a shrub, wasn't aware it's a climber.....I'll see how it grows, I may have to find an alternative spot if it insists on wanting to climb!
I'm really enjoying everyone's photos, inspiration to find more rose room!
@Marlorena, thanks, yes I’m pleased with growth so far. I amended same as the rest, mixing in bagged manure and ericaceous pine bark compost to my alkaline clay, then mulched heavily with the ericaceous too. It’s had alfalfa tea at the start, then a little liquid organic feed with seaweed and fish emulsion later on, plus lots of rainwater.

No spraying. We usually get ravaged by blackspot but I've been diligent this year with feeding and also taking off leaves that have any early signs but there has been so little.
I also have ladybirds in the garden for the first time and have spotted them on the roses, that made me smile.
I'm sure as soon as we get the south east summer heat, they will be back to looking like usual.
@Eustace Yes, potted roses could do with liquid feed every week or two.. this time of the year roses are growing very quickly so it wouldn’t do them any harm, if your rose is newly planted you could feed at half strength instead. Don’t forget to water/feed even if it has been raining too, potted roses can often form a canopy above and rain may not get to the base.. as a general rule I would water/feed at least fortnightly even if it has been raining.
Thanks @celcius_kkw for your advice. I have given them a light feed of maxicrop today. Most of my roses are 3-4 years old, but still in pots. I prune them quite hard every winter to keep them manageable in the pot. This year I repotted many from 30L tree pots to half-barrel planters.

We had a large hail storm yesterday evening but luckily no damage spotted on the roses. The weather is not the greatest the coming week . Rain , rain and again rain so not sure if there will be a lot of progress the coming days.
@Nollie that eyes for you is really beautiful. I have looked at Mme Alfred Carrière but will it not be too large for an arch? Or is it controllable with pruning?
Pink cloud and Ghislaine are growing at a quick pace .
pink cloud ( sorry rotation still not solved and no idea how I need to crop with the phone)
@owd potter ... just to add to what Mr VE said, here are some pics of how Etoile Violette can totally obliterate a climbing rose, so we need to be careful how we use these gr.. 3 clematis.. sometimes it works with roses, and othertimes it doesn't.. they don't always go that well together .. ..this is it on the march.. ..here it invaded my Blush Noisette rose... ..and here it demolished my Zephirine Drouhin which was a young rose at the time..
Ultimately, I had to remove that clematis to allow the roses to flourish... So what did I do with it? plant it along a picket fence where it swamped my 'Cornelia' rose and a Pittosporum..
I no longer have it, but now have a similar one called 'Rhapsody' which I'm making the same mistake with...but that's gardening....
The only rose I grew that stopped it was 'Malvern Hills'... that rose won the argument..

.. where you have Cramoisi Superieur, have you amended that soil? it looks so good.. what did you put in?..
