'Amazing Day' showing its yellow base 'Paul Transon'/'Paul Noel' 'Starlet Melina' The whole plant. It needs better support and better training. I've been neglecting it a bit. 'The Prince' next to it. 'The Albrighton Rambler' 'Gabriel Oak'
@edhelka I love your Amazing Day too.. I find the deep pink centre that fades to almost white on the edges very alluring. Bit like ‘Eden’ / Pierre de Ronsard which doesn’t seem popular in the UK..
@cooldoc my desdemona does this mutated frilly edge thing too in its second flush.. it was the same last year, I wonder if it’s the result of aphid infestation as I tend to get pretty heavy aphid attack in late summer.. and desdemona is one of their favourites..
@Tack You’ve got such a wide selection of roses.. do you grow all of them in pots?
@edhelka Amazing Day is a real eyeful but I think your Paul is one of my favourites.
@celsius_kkw I do have about 25 different roses in the ground and 40ish in pots with a similar number of non-rose container plants. I am the derided Garden Centre kind of gardener, I am more interested in the detail and habits of lots of plants than in the overall look. I want the garden to look nice of course but have to compromise by placing my varied plants together as best I can rather than choose them for a specific effect. I have so many pots because I find that my easiest way of fitting just another one in. The garden is large but very mature with trees and shrubs around the edges (very rooty and shady), creating gaps for roses is really hard work and means exposing chain link fences. I could create ideal beds down the middle but that would just be more work. I'm looking and failing to find a suitable professional gardener as it is. Gosh that was long, sorry.
Today Rose de Rescht, utopia and Timeless Purple are cheering me up
The boy’s sunflower is looking really past its best, but when I had a close look today it’s become a whole ecosystem! Spotted so many different types of parasitic wasp and lots of hoverflies. But the best thing was seeing the whole life cycle of the ladybird on each leaf. So many different eggs, larvae, pupae and adults in amongst the sea of different coloured aphids. Never seen so many on one plant.
Definitely keeping it for now, it’s supporting so much life! I bet it’s acting as a sacrificial plant for the apple tree too and that’s why it’s escaped the aphids this year.

To all fans of 'Amazing day' - it is available from Style roses.
I am trying to get organized about my list for 2022 and get to ordering. Anyone already did orders for the bare-root season?
