Regarding testing, yes bugs can and do slip through and sometimes only become apparent when a system is used 'in anger', but the impression is that senior managers would not countenance the possibility that there could be a problem with the new system.

Have you never heard software support say 'works fine here sir/madam' (as if that had any relevance at all)? I think that most software suffers from the deluded view that it can't go wrong because it's been tested. But it isn't just software that suffers from the 'it's the greatest' delusion - wasn't the Titanic unsinkable? No one wants to think their product may be seriously flawed.

If you want to explore down a, forgive the phrase, rabbit's hole then have a look at the benefits of faecal transplants. When you have pets, two kids in nappies and spend your free time covered in mud in the garden you have to have a fairly open mind about poop.Β Β
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I’m with you too, Hostafan. Indeed I’ll go further. 50 years ago it was the norm to have a bath once or twice a week, now it is a shower every day or you’re abnormal. Similarly clothes are worn once and put in the laundry basket. This profligate use of water and detergents cannot be helpful to the environment but don’t cast aspersions at me, I use peat free compost!

IMHO the obsession with "cleanliness" and the rise of food and other allergies must be connected.

I try not to use anything antibacterial poor old bacteria! I had 6 children close together and housework was never my top priority but they are all fit and well no asthma or serious allergies and I think a bit of dirt never hurt anyone. People get very silly about cleanliness as if it’s a virtue in itself. As my mom would say β€œ life is too short to polish the skirting boards”

I'm pretty sure there aΒ  millions around the world who have lived to ripe old age and have never ever used " anti bacterial " products.

I don’t look at half price plants. They make me sad.
You are missing the opportunity to make some big savings.Β  Being half price doesn't automatically mean half dead.Β  At one of our local garden centres they are looked after just as well as everything else.Β  They are generally reduced because they have passed their flowering period and the space is needed for new stock.Β  I've had quite a few bargains over the years.
