My wife said a girl at her school was convinced you couldn't get pregnant if you put sticking plaster on your belly button.Β  I have no idea if it worked for her.

I thought the food intolerance thing is media and fashion driven.Β  Also most food allergies and intolerances are non-diagnosed by a professional doctor of medicine but gimmick driven food fad promoters.

Basically you have a little bit of wind and bloating from any number of natural sources or not connected to anything. But you read about lactose intolerance or gluten and it must be that. So you cut a lot of foods stuff out of your diet. You probably get worse because you've cut things out you need but you double down on your intolerance idea.

Besides to do exclusion diets properly you really do need medical assistance. Aiui you cut everything but certain foods out and run like that for awhile.Β  We're talking quite a few weeks.Β  Then you add something to your diet and nothing else for quite some time to give yourself time to show reaction. And so on. It's not something people do but they still claim intolerance. Ignorance is what I call it.

Sorry I'm channeling my inner curmudgeon again quite strongly today.Β

Many so called allergies are indeed intolerance and can be managed but some are serious allergies which can kill in seconds or minutes so not to be dismissed lightly.Β  Β EG, if you're brought up on processed foods and/or a limited range of fresh fruit and veg you will have difficulty digesting dietary fibre and that can cause bloating and wind.

It would appear that a lot of gluten intolerance arises from eating "fast" bread made using the time and money saving (for the bread industry) Chorleywood method.Β  Β Slow bread with old-fashioned overnight proving doesn't have this effect on digestive systems.Β  Β All those additives to make bread stay "fresh" longer don't help either.Β  They are forbidden in French bakeries tho I don't know about industrial bread in SMs.Β Β

Nuts, peanuts, shellfish, lactose intolerance and full celiac disease and so on need to be taken seriously tho.

A friend of mine - a biochemist - told me that the reason I cannot tolerate gluten in bread anymore is because modern wheat has a new gene to make it more productive and as I have got older my ability to digest it has decreased.Β  This applies to freshly baked artisan bread as well as cakes and biscuits.Β  I don't avoid all things but do find I need a Rennies a few hours later.

Try home made bread and cake and biscuits using spelt (ancient wheat form), oats or ground almonds.Β  Β The latter two work well for gluten intolerant friends here when I take cakes or biscuits to garden group sessions.Β  Β Spelt bread may suit you too.
