No Dettol or any anti bacterial stuff used here, we have a septic tank, the idea is the bacteria eat it away, what’s the point in killing 99% of all know germs in a septic tank.
It wasn’t a problem for our grandparents, born in the 1800’s. Β We’re all still here.Β
We played in the dirt, the coal bin, we had childhood diseases, Β
13 kids in my dad’s family, the only one that died was one who fought in the war, not Β WW2, before that and the Americans bombed the Red Cross ship he was on, on his way home.  🀬
Having said that, all our men sit down to wee, and the lid is put down before flushing.Β

Septic tank here too but a huge, modern job compared to the one we had in Belgium.Β  Either way, no demon cleaning products such as Domestos or Dettol.

Ours was the original, when we asked someone about putting in a modern one he asked us if ours worked, we said it worked fine, he said don’t change it then, they were the best, Β so donkeys years old and works well, emptied every 3 or 4 years.Β

We emptied ours shortly after moving here, so 9 years ago , use bleach etc, kinda sparingly and it's not even half full again.

I firmly believe that the modern obsession with cleanliness is behind the massive increase in allergy and food intolerance over recent years.Β  Live in a sterile environment and there is bound to be less resistance to germs.
Look back to Europeans arriving in the Americas.Β  Whole tribes and nations were wiped out by diseases they had never come across and therefore had no resistance or natural immunity to.

I'm with you on this KT53 and HostaFan1.Β  What was the old saying? Eat a peck of dirt before you die.Β  A peck is about 9 litres, so quite a lot!Β  The obsession with antibacterial wipes, sprays etc. is driven by the big chemical companies who are always looking to create problems for which their products are the answer. It's a marketing thing. I hate the current ad. that shows lots of mini loos floating in the air in a green miasma.Β  Just open the window! (And of course clean your lavatory - not to do so would be gross!).

I can't even train mine to put the bddddy seat down😑
I have the opposite issue, I can't get our lass to leave the seat up! I mean there's more lads than lasses and we've a young one who uses the toilet as he finds it. So it makes more sense to leave the seat up.

But no! Female logic won't accept that idea. Always got to put the seat down. Why? Why one way and not the other? I cheat and put the lid down too so it takes a much effort to move the lid as the rim. Not making it easy for her.Β

    I've always thought the same.Β
Many women complain " he never puts theΒ  seat down" but I've never ever heard a single guy complain " she never lifts the seat up" .
It's hardly a Herculean task to move the seat from one position to another, they have hinged to help the arduous process, so why does it bother so many women?Β

There's a lid for a reason. Lid down unless in use.
