Β She would be better learning how to look after quorns and tofus.Β
On the wide plains of the Hertfordshire tofu farms. She my be quite shocked by what she finds if she looks into soya bean production. Perhaps she misunderstood 'animal husbandry' to mean looking after bunnies and kittens as opposed to specifically farming livestock.

Incensed about the stupid vegan girl who's enrolled for a uni degree in animal husbandry and is now complaining that she may get sent to an abbatoir as part of the course. What on earth was she thinking.
I've been doing some work in an abattoir recently. I'm mostly vegetarian these days but can butcher my own meat without a qualm when I need to. I don't like the place though :| It's probably the most ethical abattoir you'll ever come across, nothing wrong with it but even with no animals there's just a strange feeling about the place.

@NorthernJoe when I buy a new plant I take a photo of it with its ID tag. It saves a bit of trouble if the tag goes missing. You just have to make sure to file the photos where you can easily find them though.

I stand my cacti on narrow 15cm gravel trays. They are fractionally wider than the sill, but at it's a long straight edge it's not that obvious. Makes it easy to move different sized pots around too.

Having carefully collected a dozen polystyrene plug trays (over the years and usually used for beetroot seeds) I have noticed that they are in 6s and my just arrived plug begonias are in 5sΒ  :#Β  I now have 10 each of three colours of begonia - hey ho I guess that will just have to be two trays of each with a couple of empty pockets.

This decimalisation is a two edged sword, once upon a time I might have had 12 each of 3 coloursΒ  :(

I keep the tag but with cacti in the places round us there's no tag or even name of the genus on the price label. At best you'll see a generic cacti label or tag saying full sun and allow to dry out between watering. TBH from what I can remember from my cacti obsession days the tag advice isn't right for all plants they've stuck one in. For a start some suppliers to garden centres deliver succulents with cacti labels. There's cacti from different areas of the world. How can they all need the same care? Some are high altitude others are not. Some more moisture others less. Some need an almost dormant period without watering at all others don't. They're just plants with their own needs, how can you know those needs without even knowing the genus?

Sorry I get annoyed because it's negligence IMHO.

I just spoke to the guy building the house next door. He's been telling me all about his plans for plastic grass and bark chippings in the garden. :|Β  He's selling it though so maybe the new owners will have better taste.

At least you won't have to worry about weeds and weevils coming from that side
    In London. Keen but lazy.

It's been an empty plot of land ever since we moved in and an endless source of invasive weeds. I'll have to be neighbourly now and cut back all my plants that are sneaking over the boundary line. There's a lovely primula flowering over there after creeping under the fence so I'll definitely be having that back.
